Positional Challenges

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how we can be challenged in many different ways, some of it preventing some stuff!

Positional Challenges

In my evenings, on many days I am writing posts for Hive. I try to do this for many reasons, but a big one is that it's pretty good and cathartic for my brain and memory.

Not everybody has this type of thing and that's fine, but for me, it's really a time I look forward to and enjoy on a weekly basis. I don't do it every night, but I do try to do it numerous days per week so that I can stay on task but also be able to produce content on the ideas that are floating around in my head. I've got a lot of ideas and some of them are going to take a lot more time and effort to flesh out, but they are eventually going to manifest in one way or another.

One of the recent challenges I've been having, I don't know if it's a result of getting old or what.. but I have been having issues finding a comfortable position in order to write!

I will admit that the places I have to write, because we live in a condo that's sadly not very big, are a bit limited. My home office setup is in our bedroom so I can't just fire up the badass multi-monitor setup, otherwise my wife would never sleep. I also can't sit in the little man's room.. so I often have to find other places to write haha. This ends up being mostly the bathrooms! They are quiet, and they have a place for me to put my laptop. I even fashioned a little bit of a standing desk in one of them which has been good.

The challenge is now, that I can't stand up for 3 or 4 hours writing posts, so I have to alternate. When I sit, then I can't sit for 2 hours or more because my legs get all fucked up. It's a pretty brutal situation hahaha and I really didn't appreciate it much until the other day.

I was alternating between all of the various options for putting my laptop. On the floor, on the quasi-standing desk, on the closed toilet lid. No matter what I could do, I couldn't get a comfortable position and I finally gave up and just went to bed. It made me think though, that it's funny the contortionist shit that we do in order to do something like write a few posts at night.

I like to do this at night for a few reasons, one of them being the house is QUIET. I am the only one awake, for better or for worse, and I get to catalog my thoughts from the day into something. It's not Shakespeare, but it's my own personal flavor of stuff and I enjoy it. Some feel like dropping by regularly for comments which is always appreciated, and I get to spend some additional time here on Hive. It's a pretty good win all around, I think.

In some ways I am looking forward to moving out of the condo that we live in so that I can get a real environment to write in. Perhaps my own damn office! I could connect my laptop to my uber monitor setup and have a blast.. or I could just sit it on the tabletop for old times sake and write like I am now. At any rate though, I know that I am looking forward to getting a chance to have a better environment where I'm not flopping around like a beached shark trying to get back into the water.

What about you, do you have a strange place that you have to sit to do something? Why do you endure it? Let me know in the comments!

Haha interesting post! I am very comfortable sitting in my room with just a chair, table and laptop. I guess things that I do to make myself more comfortable would be making some nice tea, or setting some scented diffusers.

Yeah I can do that when the wife and son are out but when we are all home the place we live isn’t the biggest so I would wake them up lol no good!

I think it’s a great idea to have a nice scent going though! Gotta love a nice smell.

Ah I see! 🙂

Nah.. I usually set a place to write.. I cannot managed being in a uncomfortable place.😊 But, your technique was amazing. Never would have thought to use bathroom as a working space.😊 Nice idea.😊

Hahah ya we do what we can! Eventually I'll get a more formal spot!

I know for sure you will.😊 It's very necessary since where not getting younger. 😄 Enjoy your day.😊

Have you tried lying down on a sofa? That's if you have one. Almost all the time, my writing position is laying down on a sofa, every other way, maybe on the go standing, feels uncomfortable

I've tried it a few times, but it's not as easy. Are you talking about laying down with the laptop on your lap or laying down on your stomach with the laptop in front of you?

I'm not a huge fan of sofa's these days, I slept on one for like 3 years hahaha so I try to stay off them as much as I can :D I spent enough time on one!

As for me, I can write anywhere that is not noisy no matter how not conducive it may be but I always make sure that I don’t write under duress or when there is heat

Yeah that's good! It's important to find out what works best for you.

I write with my phone mostly so my bed or a sofa is the main area of writing...

The toilet is a really strange choice 😂😂
