eBay Plans

eBay has been going fairly well, but I have gone through a bit of a dip in sale recently. I did go a while not posting anything new, due to not having anything to photograph and put up, but that changed over the last two or so weeks, where I actually bought a few bundles of both games, and star wars figures.

I listed a bunch of the games, but over the last few days I've put up a bunch of the figures ranging from the 1970s - 2020s. They have all been receiving some attention and I even sold one today too.

When I first started out doing selling on eBay, I was mainly focused on games and gaming, but have decided to move more into the star wars stuff. They're both things I love and know a fair bit about, so it kind of makes sense. Another good thing about it is, I can hold onto certain figures I need from the bundles I buy.

Also, another reason I want to get into selling figures is that they actually take up less space compared to games and on average they're more valuable and cheaper to post.

Postage

Speaking of post, I am also thinking of lowering the postage for everything and just ship standard.

My current rates are registered for anything above €6, and standard for anything lower than €6.

But, I'm thinking of just doing standard for anything below €10.

My biggest fear is getting stung by people lying and saying they never received their package, but I'm at a stage where I think making more sales is better and anyone who is dishonest will be in the minority of my customers.

This idea comes from the slump in sales, and I don't want to make rash decision based on sales, however, because I also understand that this isn't a me problem and instead comes from the time of year we're in. Most people are too busy buying for other people rather than themselves so maybe it's best just to hold through this dry spell, keep listing, and wait until January/ February.

Hedging My Bets

Another thing I've been thinking of is putting listings up on Adverts, which is an Irish Buy and Sell website which is fairly popular.

As far as games go I might put up a bundle of 15 games and list them with individual prices, do 3 for a deal and all 15 for an even better deal.

That way I could potentially shift a good stack of items in one go, get paid directly and in general get more eyes on the stuff I have for sale.

Sort:

A lot of folks disposable income in late Nov/Dec goes to xmas presents and such, so it makes sense to just hold out for a bit I think. See what happens once the holiday season passes. I know here in Canada at least, I try my best not to ship anything to me in December except items I can't find in stores because it's such a total pile of chaos for package carriers and stuff is more likely to be late/lost/fed to the time vortex.

I'd suggest not making drastic changes for a week or two.

It's Black Friday in a couple of days, and before then people tend to sit on their cash hoping for a bargain. The reality is that there aren't that many great bargains around any more, and most companies stretch "Black Friday" out to a week or two, but consumers still get gripped by a kind of collective insanity and splurge on Friday anyway 😁

However, it's worth trying to upload something new on eBay most days, even if it means prepping a batch in Drafts and then putting them live over a couple of days. The algorithm loves it !

I get the reduction in shipping costs but we do 95% of them with tracked shipping. It helps the customer also see where their stuff is at which is helpful. It’s better than dealing with the hassle of someone being shitty and trying to say they never got something.

The only thing I could say is that you could work on a disclaimer or something so they have to sign or acknowledge it is a risk to do non-tracked.

I’m glad you are expanding though that’s great!

Sending you an Ecency curation vote!

I hope it improves. They are advertising free listings here, but I have found ebay a bit of a hassle in the past. I prefer to deal with people picking stuff up from me for cash and use FB market for that. No fees on that either, but I know ebay give you some security.

I've actually just dumped some old electronics as it's not worth trying to sell them.

Postage seems to be getting more expensive. Just a stamp for a letter is some silly price now.
