What is it like being a moderator for tiktok ? the other day, I got to talk with a distant relatives of mine who worked as a tiktok moderator. This person has recently resigned but what I have suspected of how it carries its operation was somehow right. Tiktok hired some type of subsidiary companies that focuses on moderating the content uploaded in the video. This person said that the policy kept changing and it was one of the reason they quit. They have a few layers of moderation and each of them deals with different type of content before being approved and feed into what the customer seen. The first layers deal with horrible thing that something we don't really see often. It's like the common content that you often see in deep and dark web. Then, there are other layers that simply deals with minor spams, certain tags that needed to be removed etc etc. This person told me that since working there, this person never installed tiktok. I mean, I can imagine given they work seeing tiktok almost all day and filtering things out over there.
These days, tiktok is considered the "google" of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. People in that age bracket often uses the app to find the latest info, how-to's and certain tips all around it. Honestly, there are a lot of differences between X and Tiktok crowd. People often associate tiktokers as generation of brain rot. It might be true but even then all social media are like that these days, preferring short form content than longer form. I guess ever since the age of instagram and the likes, people rarely have longer attention spans too.
It was interesting chat I had in a while and even more so because I haven't had the opportunity to talk more to other human being than my parents. So, I do appreciate the interaction I've had these past two days with more people in my neighborhood and having to help them prepare for the carnival. Will be sharing some of the result soon as well. They're still in editing phase and I am still exhausted for the long walks yesterday under the scorching and blazing sun 😁
