The Struggle of Ideals

Philosophically & ideologically, I detest statism. I think it’s a cancer that somehow finds its way in our society. Yet unfortunately, I was born in the so-called third world where statism is pretty strong. Love and hate it, I need to find a way to survive even if it’s quite hypocritical of me. This is somehow a great time for me to bring this up again because it’s election season where I am from and I needed to vent about how bad it has been.

Maybe I still have an ounce of care for the country as much as I am pretty much disconnected with my surroundings and politically. It’s a stark contrast given how I was pretty much connected to government related projects and such, only to realize I can’t thrive in a corrupted world where merit can’t find its way. I can’t let myself become the evil to fight the evil except now that I am older, I think that’s the only way to do so especially around here.

Rethinking Governance

This time around, we’re going to elect a new president. It's a four or five year thing where the contest seems to have made the family into a mini war. I certainly heard a lot more bickering between families who have different opinions. There are three candidates that somehow made huge promises which I am not sure if they could deliver it all. I’ve been pretty much abstaining for a long time. This time, I am going to vote.

I certainly don’t have that much hope if they would deliver their promises but I am choosing a candidate that somehow could increase our passport value. I mean, considering how weak our passport is, we need to step up since I can’t afford to buy Malta or St. Kitts and Nevis passport yet. Other than that, I am pretty much content with the healthcare system and things that have been going on. I don’t believe that a candidate should increase its taxes nor make everything free.

There is one candidate that promises free stuff but given the mentality of people around here, paying would still be a good option. Usually, if it’s free, we are treated as if we’re vermin by government staff who are being paid by our taxes. So, I definitely would rather pay and that’s the only way to get things done around here faster, by money.

Crypto Dreams and Bureaucratic Nightmares

Another candidate also brought up modern ideas like blockchain and cryptocurrency. While that sounds promising, in the age where there’s a fine line between gambling and crypto, I definitely doubt he would deliver anything promising. Still, maybe a decrease in tax and easy policy to build crypto based projects would be a good idea. Maybe it’s going to be a crypto haven? Just like back in 2016 where Bali was somehow one of the pioneering places for crypto adoption in the country.

At least, this time, I exercise my right to vote and maybe contribute to some destruction and hopeless dream of many just to make others realize that once again, the state failed to take care of them. It’s so interesting how people still want to rely on the government when they are more often than not, unreliable and act like snake oil salesmen.

I will also elect a president who could reform the way government aid is being organized. These days there are too many corruptions and as well quite inefficient. It’s 2024 and they’re still asking us to queue and even more so when it’s elderly in the community.

Inefficiencies Bureaucrazy

Today, my grandma asked me to collect government aid with her. I am anti-government aid because I know how annoying that can be but I was following along with my grandma. We went to the local govt office by tricycle and once we reached there, the line was already too long. It was filled with elderly who were queuing. They are there for apparently 10kg of rice that’s on the market that would be priced around $7. My grandma is pretty sick and she can’t even stand for too long. I asked her to find a seat and she was sitting next to the government staff who handed out the rice.

Apparently, I met my neighbor who told me to make copies of my grandma IDs and her paperwork. It was not stated on the paper and invitation apparently. So, I went to a nearby photocopier but they rejected me and told me to go somewhere else. What was infuriating me is that there was a photocopier just inside and I could see that. I was still trying to talk to them to get me copies but they said no. I went to my grandma and told her that I needed to photocopy the paper but she was already annoyed.

During that, I heard how an old man was treated badly by the government staff. The staff were shouting as well as having annoyed expressions. I certainly did not like the whole situation and even my grandma was already annoyed. She kept rambling how it was not worth it to queue for low quality rice for $7. I am sure it made everyone feel a little odd because everyone there sort of needs it and my grandma said something like that. Technically, she doesn’t really need it, she’s pretty comfortable but perhaps because she’s elderly and a widow, that’s why she was on the list of government aid.

But me and my grandma were already uncomfortable seeing how other elderly were treated, so we went back home and I booked a grab car for us to go back. On the way home, she kept ranting about it and how it was not worth it, not to mention the long queue that’s not elderly friendly and how inefficient it was. This is why I generally hate anything government related and would have avoided it as much as possible. It’s quite an annoyance to see that and clearly a bad Monday haha.

I really hope you can pan the right vote out there... we have elections coming up as well and it's going to be another shit show for the next four years.

Life I suppose, or what they tell us life to be.

we have elections coming up as well and it's going to be another shit show for the next four years.

OMG same here! it's like the rest of the world is having their election to elect a shit show government. IDK, I am not too hopeful but hey, I also might contribute to the country's destruction, who knows haha

Laughs, yiu might contribute if you choose the wrong candidate...but how is anyone really supposed to know what goes on in their heads 🤣🤣

Good luck with all that! Keen to see a rant post if whoever you voted for didn't win 🫠😁🤣

Elections are always a dicey time and change of regimes shake things up, sometimes the devil you know isn't working and time to clean house. Part of me thinks they do that purposely to discourage people from getting aid by making the lines too slow and crowded. Cheaper if people say nope and go home every day. Like you said tho, it's sad so many need it. Hopefully you get he political landscape you wish to see for the future. Your Granny is lucky to have you helping her. xox

. Part of me thinks they do that purposely to discourage people from getting aid by making the lines too slow and crowded.

There's that factor too tbh. It ended ups going to be spent on their family and stuff. But yeah, maybe there'll be a change maybe not but I am voting, for better or worse. Thanks for checking out :)

that is a proper rant, but also an experience and an election that deserves some good old ranting 😉
the good thing, you contributed to the democratic process, regardless of how good (or not) those who win will act towards the general public. even when we don't like the systems we live in, when we get the chance to participate in voting, how tiny our vote is, we shall execute that right. good for you you did so.

Recently when we had elections in my country, I voted as well, though I knew it didn't make any difference. in my country (like most European countries) we made a big swing to conservative and nationalistic parties. fortunately, we have a gazillion multi-party system so it'll be at least 4 political parties that will form the new government in charge which means no real extreme rulings, but a more moderate one due to consensus they have to reach.

The previous presidents didn't really caught my attention and they mostly aren't bringing any solutions or represent younger generations. I heard about the election in especially Geert Wilders, I mean he's quite known internationally too. At the same time, content form Eva Vlaardingerbroek made it to my FYP which made me aware of it a bit. Maybe these days there'll be a shift in how the world is going to be governed? but amidst ongoing and upcoming wars, sounds like we all need a solid leader :D

Yea, Geert is indeed known internationally. Our own Trump. Well, Trump copied his hairdo 😆 Eva extreme party she belongs to, the party leader believes the rulers of the world are reptiles 😆😆😆 Honestly, I can't take these peeps seriously. Sure, they know what they are doing. Well, Geert does. FVD leader went off the rail a year or two ago and lost most of his voters. Strange to me, since this guy "Thierry Baudet" is I think a cleaver guy. Perhaps he took a bit too much of something that twisted his logical mind.

I think we still have to hit rock bottom before a large enough part of society starts to 'revolt' in one way or another. Only when we hit rock bottom will we find our ways again to improve our behaviours towards each other, help those who need help, be much less selfish as most of us are today, and hopefully make big chances for how we are governed. Perhaps even with mucho more local governance, mucho more distributed. Until those times, I continue with my conversations about such society with whoever wants to hear this in real-life circles. Perhaps that gets some to start thinking about these things as well.

Sadly quite a few things are incredibly corrupt and inefficient. Government is absolutely one of them! I know that voting is important in a lot of ways, it would just be helpful to feel real positive change for once instead of broken promises and BS lol

Soo true! I voted yesterday regardless because a lot of things don't really affect me and nobody sort of care with the middle incomers haha

It has always been amazing to me to see how the election cycles all over the globe seem to coincide. It gives a feeling of a big global conspiracy to keep the regular folks controlled. Jamaica is having our local government elections coming in the last week of February.
And its the same thing again just a bit more modern than the last election in 2016. Here, Jamaicans pretty much don't even understand the purpose of local government elections and treat it like general elections. So the changes that are necessary for them locally, in their Constituency are not actualized if they don't have a close relationship with their representatives. Jamaicans pretty much vote along party lines. Whether the JLP or PNP and most times based on which party pays higher for thier vote.
I also want change in how our voting syatems work. the integration of blockchain technology would be promising. I don't think the candidate you are more inclined to vote for, understands crypto. I think he just playing with the interests of the young people. But lets hope he can bring if its even a small change for you, grandma and the rest of the family.

While blockchain has that ability to avoid double spending or double votes and could be cheaper too but the infrastructure in most countries aren't just there yet. There are also problem with security that even in my country isn't goo enough. So,while it's a good idea it isn't really feasible just yet. Honestly, that candidate might have been throwing some buzz word around but that's a +1 step to something new in the country since the previous presidents and its vice presidents are boomers and we need a change :D

true. May be you could try reaching out to that politician to see where his mindset and true intentions are. perhaps right a letter to his office and see if he responds.
Then slowly the infrastructure can be developed to match the vision.
