How did I enter a toxic relationship with inflation?

in #hive-1962332 years ago

Today went from a complete 100-0 for me.

Literally.

I am furious because this is getting way out of hand and sometimes I wonder if we are gradually penetrating the Great Depression.

A quick run through.
So I woke up today, scroll through my notifications, did the house chores and freshened up. It was remaining one thing. What the hell am I gonna eat.
I was in the mood for some protein that’ll make me destroy my toilet, Beans.
I had Beans two days ago but I still somehow craved and one thing about me is I must satisfy my cravings.

I went to the market straight to my Beans guy and I couldn’t believe what I heard.
This man told me the same beans I had purchased two days ago last week at 550 Naira per cup was now 600 Naira.
Literally just TWO days ago.
He went on to say it’s even because I’m his customer he’s giving me at that price but as for others he’ll sell at 650. Wow

To ensure I wasn’t about to be cheated, I retraced my steps back to other beans vendors and upon finding out it’s the same price and some even higher, I shamelessly went back to my customer to purchase his.

Like that wasn’t enough, I needed a few other ingredients.
Potatoes.
Now it’s been a long time I actually purchased potatoes in the market and as at that time they displayed potatoes ranging from price 200 Naira and above.
I was expecting that there won’t be anymore vendors selling at that least price but I prayed and hoped there was.

Well guys there wasn’t.

The least price for potatoes is now 500 Naira and the potatoes some vendors managed to sell at 200 Naira had almost gone bad.
Discouraged by that, frustrated me had to buy the 500 Naira potatoes or risk food poisoning.

The 2000 Naira I took to the market expecting to have a few spare change to buy yoghurt as my usual reward, was not even close to being possible. I had to withdraw more money to add because the 2000 Naira was not going to be sufficient for everything I needed. I was right.

Still not enough, I went to buy pap hoping that would be the only stable product.
Well it was the same price alright but the quantity though, went three times smaller.
This time I was about to scream in the middle of the market WHAT THE ACTUAL F!
Did I unintentionally fly to another dimension in a couple of days?

Yes I am 100% aware that inflation is our most popular pain in the ass but I never thought prices would be as volatile as trading index!

Out of 3,000 Naira I was left with this.

Subtracting my transport back home I was actually left with 100 Naira, sunburn and a dehydrated throat.

On the bright side, I channeled my anger towards cooking a bomb beans and potato combo with hot pap so I’m happy again.

Inflation is making me go crazy!

That's certainly a pain in the ass! I know that we are very lucky in my home personally because we are able to go directly to a farm and get a lot of the food we buy at cheaper prices, getting them directly from the farms but some of the staples like beans and rice have certainly raised in price. I think sadly it's only going to get worse at this point. There is a group of fucking crazy assholes that are bored and intentionally making people of the world suffer for their games. It's ridiculous!

Aw you're really lucky and honestly owning a farm would be a great strategy for this spike in price of foodstuffs in my country.
Oh it is indeed getting worse, now I'm sure if I go to the market again to check the price of this same beans, there is a high possibility it might not be the same.

There is a group of fucking crazy assholes that are bored and intentionally making people of the world suffer for their games. It's ridiculous!

I couldn’t agree more!

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK!

Looked like you could use a hand

Exactly. Thanks!

It's not even funny. The craziest is the proce of cooking gas. I don't know where we're headed in this country for real. I wonder how people who barely make enough manage to survive in this economy. Meanwhile, this beans looks goooodddd!

Yesss even gas. It's now a thousand Naira you can imagine.

Haha thanks, come join me!

I'd join but beans and my tummy are enemies 😔☹😩😫

I'm wondering if we live in the same Nigeria cos I've been buying beans for 700 and potato for 650 😪 Everything is expensive.

You were left with a whole 300 Naira? See babe! Winnie Spending 💰 🤑

Please where do you stay so I can avoid that area 😂
Although I'm sure it'll still get to that price, then I can leave beans and enter Garri.

Lmao not "Winnie Spending" 😆

Beans even got to #500...Wow...I must eat my darling beans with more dignity and pride, it is turning into a rare Mineral at that price...This is terrible..but you still made it and ate..Lol

Yes I did, where have you been Mr :(

In my cave hiding...

What kind of beans are they.
I make a big pot of pinto beans that will last a couple of days.
JW for President, I would vite for you, you should hunt down the corrupt people, and string them up and save Naira!

They are called honey beans in my country, though I don't know generally.
Lmao it's easier said than done 😆 but for now I'm the one doing the voting. Gotten my Voters card already, just waiting on the election time to flex it hehe

The way we are going in this country, is totally not clear. That is if were are going anywhere at all.

Because, nobody can say we are going forward, and nobody will say we are going backwards. Going back wards would even be good sef.

In those days, things were good. Do to go back then would not be bad.

"Yesterday's price is not today's price" is on a mad level in Nigeria.

Every price is hitting the roofs every day. New ATH every day. Like, WTF????

Trading index no reach like this.
How the heck did we get here!?

I really cannot understand how we landed here.

After the complain you still chop this yummy food🤣...

That is the trick, they know even with inflation we need these basic things....

It's a crazy world right now 🙄

Lmao it's like they all planned it cos if you do shakara to another vendor, it's still the same price.

Yes I ate my precious beans o 😂 thank God making pap did not frustrate me, I would've lost it!

Crazy might even be an understatement.

It's not even funny again🥲

At this point I don't even have the energy to be angry or frustrated.
It's the reality of the times we live in my dear we just jave to find ways to cope if not...

Some parts of this post cracked me up. The way you ended with That question did too for some reason😂

I've never tried beans n potato though...it looks absolutely delicious🤭

I like how you like to look on the bright side 😂
Lmao did you mean the "How is your Monday going"?

You're missing! That combo is underrated, love love loveeee it

Where else is there to look? My sanity is important to me and a walk on the dark side will make me go crazy and I definitely do not want that.
Yeaa, i meant that lol...the contrast was a little funny. You just finished ranting and pouring out your frustration then you asked the question like all that didn't just happen. You may not see it but it's funny to me😂.

Lol!! I'll defintely try it then😁

I get it now, Great sense of humor 😂

You are even lucky to have change😀😀 it seems transportation still remains the same at your location. It's crazy what is happening in Nigeria. I go to market every week and I wonder if I lost money. My list is never accurate because prices are constantly changing. It is troubling. Sometimes I wonder how people who have a lot of children cope with making three pots of soup in a week. This is a cry for help. We need help in this country. If this continues, people will start dying of starvation. Naira has no value anymore. An 100k salary paid job is a joke now because it affords nothing. It's a pity. God help us. This is the more reason we keep screaming go and get your PVC. Hopefully come next year, people will vote in the right person, a Messiah

You get it!
As for my market list, I won't even bother to write prices anymore. Anywhere the money finishes, I go home.

I hope people aren't blinded by ignorance and actually vote the right candidate this time.
God help us.

God help us my dear.
