After two years of no amusement fair due to the pandemic, Guindulmanons were really excited to find out that there's one for this year's town fiesta. Most of the locals here really look forward to this event, just like what happens in the month of May which is considered the fiesta month of the island, Guindulmanons who are working outside of the island would eventually go home and spend their leaves just so they can celebrate the event.
The top two rides that are really crowded are the Vikings and the Ferris Wheel. The Ferris Wheel of course is one that we think would just be a chill ride so most of those who don't like the thrill that the Vikings offer would prefer it instead.
Inside this air balloon-designed cell, a maximum of three persons can get in and a fee of Php 50 per person will be paid to be able to enjoy this ride. I am not sure about the diameter of the wheel though but there are 12 cells.
The only thing was that upon observing it, the ride won't continuously go because they'd always stop it for another set of joiners to get off then new ones will get in. It was unpleasant to see the wheel turn and then stop every now and then. I even talked to some friends who had tried it and they also expressed their disappointment on that matter.
I was concerned if the Ferris wheel is safe because I can see that its parts look old and at every turn, I'd hear squeaks which somehow signify that the thing is rusty. But it seemed like it is safe though as there were joiners who looked heavy yet it was able to hold it together!
I wonder how's the view from the top too! The location is just at the bay walk of Guindulman so there might not be any nice view from the top. We were just watching it go round and round until we got over it.
Another ride at the local amusement fair is the Vikings. I had tried riding one before and I could still remember how scary it was to be in there especially if it reaches its peak height. So, now that I have a baby, I don't want to really risk my life on any of these rides.
However, it was funny because my mother really wanted to try it. She had tried this before yet she still wants to ride again. The case was that the safety handle was broken and so she had nothing to hold onto during the ride. The guys who were looking after the ride just stepped on the handle the entire time so to keep it stable. I guess they got it fixed the next day.
I was laughing while watching her video but also scared that she might puke or she might get high blood pressure from that fearful swings! I apologize for laughing at her video though but she was just looking really fearful the whole time until it stopped.
Regardless if it feels scary, there's a different feeling when the ride stops, it makes the riders want to ride again! I guess it's the thrill that it gives.
Can you see those guys standing up? Those were staff of the fair and were there to take videos. They get Php 20 per ride per cellphone. I guess they got used to the ride already so they are not amused at all!
If you zoom in, you'll see the faces of these people riding the Vikings at that time. They were thrilled but I guess there were more times when they can't understand how they were feeling anymore!
Now,let's move on to the packed fair games which may make you rich or poor in just a few minutes.
My brother told me that his wife's uncle works at one of these tables and they have to keep a daily money bag of Php 150,000 before they open so in case someone bets a huge amount, they have something to pay him or her.
But that happens once in a blue moon, most of the time, they won't be spending anything because they can get the funds from those who lose during the betting.
I never played or bet in any of these games but it's quite fun to watch the people around enjoy the games. My husband and I didn't bring our wallets because our goal was just to take photos and observe the people around us. But it is also a way for us not to try any games or ride anything at all.
Bingo is one of the most sought games at the fair. Their Bingo area was full in fact when we checked it. The people however were really looking serious when we checked it. The announcer is always fun to listen to and he would always makes his statement entertaining.
My mother-in-law loves to play this game and she'd always tell us that she had won several house stuff whenever she plays. She won sets of glasses, pails, and a lot more! So every time I'd see a Bingo game, I remember her.
There are so many table games and they are always crowded. Money bills and coins are also on the tables. I really wonder how much the fair gets from all of these bets!
According to my brother again, the middle man who had processed the license to operate earns around Php 3,000 per table per game. So this means that they earn more than that every single night! The fair started more than two weeks ago and they'll be moving to another town again by the end of the fiesta!
I think that this is not just for entertainment but this is such a huge business! I just hope that those who lost during the betting or the games will not be going home with empty pockets! I have heard of several stories concerning those who had bet their cellphones, and their animals because they had high hopes of winning but they ended up losing.
How about you guys? Do you like going to amusement fairs?
