Finally she got her choice of ornaments
Getting your choice of ornament is luck and finally she got what she wanted at Malabar Gold, Patia. Friday is our lucky day, and that is why we choose this Friday to go for the purchase. She was very much interested to buy it during Dhanteras (posted here, but then she returned disappointed because she was looking for a specific type of Necklace that comes with gem stones. Most of the time we buy something as we go with a mindset to buy it, but she preferred to return instead. As the marriage season is going on, we decided to go to the nearest Malabar Gold store, Patia and try her luck.
And the new collections that have come in, did not disappoint her - she loved this one.
But wait, this was not the only one. Since long she was asking me to exchange her old necklace, and I was not willing because, it's always a loss to exchange GOLD. You pay the making charge and when you exchange, they pay you in current gold price, if its 22 crt gold. And you again pay the making charge on new ornaments. So you always loose that amount, which is big. But considering her desire to try these new designs, this time I allowed her to exchange her old necklace. If she does not wear what she has, then its useless. Another important factor was that Malabar Gold has a fair evaluation of old gold for exchange and also have a fair price policy which allows for transparent and reasonable pricing of products. So before going for the exchange , they spent a good amount of time to finalize their choice of ornaments.
One of their staff Sasmita Sahu, was very patient to not only assist them to find out what they wanted, but very very helpful to take us through the entire purchase and exchange process, admire her patience. The exchange process has changed significantly in recent times and is very transparent. They now have a digital scanner ( like X-ray machine), which can scan the gold and tell what carat it is.
It's pretty costly , but as you can see, it can exactly evaluate your old gold quality and guarantee a fair price. In older days they would reserve some percentage, that would pinch your pocket. Now that we have such niche technology, we always get back the right price of our old gold.
This was her old Necklace - a bit traditional and she could wear only in occasions like marriage etc. So she wanted something modern and latest. Though they scanned the gold, their next step in exchange is to melt it at 900 °C and make it a perfect biscuit of gold for exchange, removing any impurities, so that its not a loss to them as well. So this is the last appearance of this necklace before it went to RIP. She did give some of her other gold jewelries as well, luckily all of them came out 22 carat.
This melting machine is also pretty costly and the price is based on capacity. But its good to see such niche machines being available that can melt the gold in 5 minutes, which guarantees a fair exchange price to you. And finally it came like this - a tiny gold biscuit.
He was trying to understand the whole process and follow up to make sure, everything is calculated right - something that will come in his future use.
And then as we moved to the final billing process, he went to the McDonalds store that is just beside this show room and enjoyed some vegetarian bites.
Here is what they brought - the entire collection of purchases.
And before coming back happily, Sasmita offered a nice gift as well - she waited till this long and went for lunch only after we came out - pretty dedicated to her job.
This will be part of my google review of this place.
