Happy Sunday, Stem social community! Today we did a dental composite restoration on the front tooth of a patient, and it came out amazingly beautiful. Dental composite is a procedure that repairs damaged tooth or teeth using a composite material.

Damaged or fractured tooth can be caused by;
a)Biting on hard foods or objects
b) facial trauma caused by an accident
c) injury
d) falls
c) tooth decay

Step-by-step process of composite restoration:

  1. We took a periapical x-ray to check the tooth cavity and determine the extent of the tooth damage.

  2. The patient was then given local anesthesia (L.A.) to numb the area and ensure the patient's comfort during the procedure.

  3. We prepare the tooth by cleaning and removing the decayed portions of the tooth using dental drills and other tools to create a clean cavity.

  4. We then isolate the tooth with a rubber dam to prevent saliva contamination during the restoration.

  5. Tooth etching with a conditioning gel creates a better bond for the restoration materials.

  6. We apply the composite resin on the surface of the tooth and shape it to match the natural tooth contour.

  7. For composite restoration, we used a special light-curing handpiece to harden the material.

  8. We then proceeded to the final adjustments and polishing of the filling, removing any excess material and polishing the tooth to a clean finish.

Negative Effects of Restoration

  1. Tooth sensitivity: This is a common side effect; patients may experience sensitivity when drinking cold or hot beverages.

  2. Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to certain components of the filling materials.

  3. Fillings can wear off over time due to excessive chewing force or grinding.

Note that before you do a tooth restoration, you should know that there are different materials that can be used, depending on the location and severity of the damage. You should go for regular dental check-ups to monitor the health of the restoration and address any issues on time. Brushing and flossing are also ways of maintaining the longevity of the restoration.
