Hello to everyone in the Hive Pets community! Today I join the community to bring you a post dedicated to notify/follow up on the health situation of Mia, my dog, who about two weeks ago was quite sick with what seemed to be Parvovirus. And I say seemed because after a few days, it is likely that it was not that but some other type of digestive and infectious problem. In conjunction with Mia's doctor, she began to receive a different treatment that turned out to relieve her much more. Here I tell you all about it.
Mia started feeling sick about two weeks ago. The symptoms ranged from vomiting, low temperature, diarrhea and blood. That's why we contacted Dr. Elio Parra. Everything dictated that Mia was sick with Parvovirus, a very strong virus that is usually fatal in almost all cases. She was given a treatment to fight the virus (ampicillin, ondansentron, metronidazole and omeprazole, plus serum). All of this helped Mia to be able to feel better again, walk, drink water and eat on her own. However, we noticed that even though the treatment was extended from 5 days to 7 days, she kept having fetid, watery and somewhat bloody bowel movements.

El día de hoy me uno a la comunidad para traerles una publicación dedicada a notificar/dar seguimiento sobre la situación de salud de Mía, mí perrita, quién hace unas dos semanas estuvo bastante enferma con lo que parecía ser Parvovirus. Y digo pareciera porque luego de algunos días, es probable que no haya sido eso sino algún otro tipo de problema digestivo e infeccioso. En conjunto con el doctor de Mia, ella comenzó a recibir un tratamiento diferente que resultó aliviarla mucho más. Aquí les cuento todo.
Mía comenzó a sentirse mal hace ya unas dos semanas. Los síntomas iban desde vomitos, baja temperatura, diarrea y sangre. Por esa razón contactamos con el doctor Elio Parra. Todo dictaba que Mia estaba enferma con Parvovirus, un virus muy fuerte que suele ser mortal en casi todos los casos. Se le dió un tratamiento para combatir el virus (ampicilina, ondansentron, metronidazol y omeprazol, más el suero). Todo eso sirvió para que Mía fuera capaz de volver a sentirse mejor, caminar, tomar agua y comer por su cuenta. Sin embargo, notamos que a pesar de que se alargó el tratamiento de 5 días a 7, no paraba de tener evacuaciones fétidas, líquidas y con algo de sangre.
For this, the doctor gave us a second treatment consisting of bactron, metronidazole, bisak and omeprazole. This second treatment took effect in only two days, which made us feel very relieved because Mia was losing a lot of weight and we were afraid that by going so long without absorbing food, it would be even more difficult for her to gain strength and muscle mass. We needed her to really start doing well and although we knew that everything was a process that takes patience and time, she could not spend any more days in that state. The previous post was made before this second treatment.
Now, after Mía followed both treatments, I can say that her recovery is almost complete. She has been able to not only have an appetite, eat solid food, drink water on her own, walk, run and bark loudly, but she has not had any more problems with her stomach. The first time we saw her defecate solid, we were very happy because it was a clear sign that her stomach and intestines were working properly. I never imagined I would be so happy to see that stool. I know it may sound a little unpleasant but when you've spent so much time watching your puppy sick, not doing things he should be doing on his own and regularly, any sign of progress seems like a reason to celebrate.
Para ello, el doctor nos dió un segundo tratamiento que consistía en suministrar bactron, metronidazol, bisak y omeprazol. Este segundo tratamiento hizo efecto en tan solo dos días, por lo cual nos hizo sentir muy aliviados pues Mía estaba perdiendo mucho peso y teníamos miedo de que al pasar tanto tiempo sin absorber los alimentos, le fuera aún más difícil para ella tomar fuerza y masa muscular. Necesitábamos que ella comenzará realmente a estar bien y aunque sabíamos que todo era un proceso que conlleva paciencia y tiempo, ella no podía pasar más días en ese estado. Ahora, luego de que Mía siguió ambos tratamientos, puedo decir que su recuperación es casi total. Ella ha podido no solo tener apetito, comer alimentos sólidos, tomar agua por su cuenta, caminar, correr y ladrar con fuerza, sino que no ha vuelto a tener problemas con su estómago. La primera vez que vimos que defecó sólido, estábamos muy felices pues era una clara señal de que su estómago e intestinos estaban trabajando de forma correcta. Yo no imaginé nunca sentirme tan feliz por ver esas heces. Sé que puede sonar un poco desagradable pero cuando has pasado tanto tiempo viendo a tu cachorro enfermo, sin hacer cosas que debería hacer por su cuenta y con regularidad, cualquier muestra de avance parece un motivo para celebrar.
Currently she is back to being a happy puppy, not dependent on ways to be fed or treated with meds, pills, or anything that makes her dependent to be functional. I am also glad that the kittens in the house were looking for Mia to play with now that she is back from captivity. Since I have another dog, I had to put her away in another room so that whatever Mia had, Brandy (my other dog) wouldn't get infected. It would be a very complicated situation if both dogs got sick. Actualmente ella ha vuelto a ser una cachorra feliz, que no depende de vías para ser alimentada ni tratada con medicamentos, ni pastillas, ni nada que la haga dependiente para ser funcional. Me alegra también que los gatitos de la casa buscaban a Mia pars jugar ahora que ella ha vuelto del cautiverio. Cómo tengo otra perrita, la tuve que apartar en otro cuarto para que sea lo que fuera que tenía Mía, Brandy (mi otra perra) no se infectara.
