English version
- July 21 "World Dog Day" which was celebrated for the first time in 2004.
- July 27 "Street Dog Day" has been created to raise awareness regarding the abandonment and mistreatment of these animals. That certainly for me is unjustifiable. And it is necessary to review this in our societies.
I have had a pet for 12 years. I had never had one, but finally, I did and, since then, I have generated a great sensitivity for domestic and stray animals, greater tolerance, respect, and affection for those beings that make some of us happier and more fun days. I think that "Fito Antonio" has definitely helped me, along with my trip to the Gran Sabana and the climb to Roraima to be that "Gea" that you know. Always sensitive to the environment, with that desire to conserve the planet and help others.
There have been many stories, funny and not-so-funny things that I have lived with Fito, a very spoiled black puppy that is part of my daily life. And I say that he is spoiled because not only do I consent to it, but because many people do it, my neighbors greet him, the children stop to pet him, and my students know that they have to give him attention and affection so that I can review their theses or give them some explanation, my friends should also pay attention even if they don't like animals.
In short, as you can see, Fito is a true companion in adventures, although perhaps we have not had as many as some others. This time I will comment on the most recent. Since we were invited to a beach house. This was quite stressful, but I decided to go, even though my beloved Fito has been blind for a couple of years. So he left you these words and some images of this harrowing adventure, but an adventure nonetheless.
Good reading!
An unexpected departure
However, my friend and her husband, two super kind beings, who also have three beautiful dogs, extended the invitation to Fito. So given that opportunity, we quickly prepared at super speed. The first challenge was the one-hour trip by car with my friends' three dogs, but they all behaved well, including Fito, who was not used to being in a vehicle for so long and wanted the window to be lowered to show his little face and do as dogs always do.
Most worrying
My biggest concern was that, although he is blind, he goes ahead, of course, he uses his sense of smell a lot and helps himself by putting his nose first, but there were many stairs and gaps where he could fall and hurt himself. I've noticed that when he explores he throws out his trial front legs and that couldn't work out well in this case. In fact, as soon as he made his way onto the dock he wanted to be right there on the edge. And I was scared, anticipating a fall. He liked to smell and it literally seemed like he was enjoying the scenery.
As time passed I relaxed a bit, but without losing attention. Fito is my partner and my responsibility. And he had no idea how he would feel if something happened to him. Perhaps what he has always called my attention the most is his determination to move forward, despite his condition.
I even remember once that I was depressed, stopped, motionless, and looking for excuses to justify that I was not moving forward. I went out with him to his walk and it was revealing to see how he kept moving forward and if something prevented him from continuing on one side, he looked for another, but he did not stop. He was still determined. I stared at him for a long time and he made me reflect on the limitations that sometimes we put on ourselves and that stop us, when in reality we should after a pause find a way to continue moving forward.</ Div>
Fito enjoyed it
He enjoyed it, recognized his blanket, and lay down to rest for a while, although he was restless he managed to sleep a little. On Sunday the adventure continued. For me, it was nice, even that he could enjoy, breathe another air different from the environment where we live and be even from afar with other puppies because the girls, although they accepted it, were not so receptive and Fito, as he is intelligent, kept his distance. I would have liked him to play more with them because they are a spectacle, one is a swimmer, and the other eats mangoes. But in his own way Fito enjoyed and explored quite a bit and made me walk a bit for exercise.
He was quite calm while we enjoyed the rhythm of the guitar in our voices that, sometimes joined in magical chords of longing and hope. We remain pending for a new meeting that I hope will materialize very soon. And if they invite Fito Antonio, I'll take him. I suppose he knows better the roads and the dangerous places. Definitely, every day is learning, and if it is done focused more on love than on fear it is better.
