Hello everyone! So we finally got a pet. Technically this is our 2nd pet, with a Rabbit being our first. I hated that Rabbit, since it just lived in our back porch area, and was so destructive. We could not have any plants in its reach since it would devour anything it could get it's furry feet on. So I really never looked at that Rabbit as a pet. The only thing I did appreciate was it's poop. The poop from a Rabbit is great as fertilizer since you can apply as is. Most poop you need to let sit for at least a couple weeks before using. This is because it is nutrient rich, and will burn your plants.

But I digress. Meet Gary The Leapord Gecko. He is 3 years old, and was gifted to us from a family on a Facebood Free page my wife is apart of. We just had to pay a 30$ rehomeing fee, just to make sure we where serious, with good intentions. After we picked him up, we then went to Pet Smart, and bought a few more items for the Aquarium. Plus some Crickets. So far he seems very happy!

We always wanted to get some type of pet, and this oppurtunity presented itself at the most perfect time. Today my son Isaiah turns 8 years old, and we are letting him take care of Gary so he can have more responsibilities. He loves lizards, and so far is doing a great job. Although it has only been 24 hours, lol.

If you have a reptiles as a pet, please let me know what you think, and if you have any special things you like to do for your lizard, or any tips. All comments aprreacitated. Thanks for checking out my post. :)

That’s so cool man. I’ve always wanted one of those. We have so many pets tho

Your lizard is cool too!

Cute little guy, well contained too :D

Thanks bro!

Oh my gosh! When I was young I always wanted to have a gecko as a pet but since my cousin had plenty of it, I don't think it's necessary for me to raise some. It's so cute. Gary has a good home, too. What's his food, @jonyoudyer?

Crickets, and Meal Worms :)

Sorry but I have to disagree. I had a rabbit and she was a beautiful gentle and intelligent animal who greatly enriched our lives.

Well you never met my rabbit lol. Kidding. But seriously it was so destructive the property management thought we had a dog living with us. living in an apartment with a small porch was not so ideal since I would rather have plants. If we had a big property then I would definitely like to have one around for its poop.

pls, don't torture the reptiles!
it is called terrarium btw :P~

Don’t torture: ✅

Gary looks excited for his new days lol! Hi to him 😀

:)

Leopard Geckos are amazing family pets man, and the fact that they each have their own unique patterns and coloring is so cool to me! And it seems like he really enjoys the setup you got going!

I personally recommend to dust all your food with calcium powder, because leopard geckos usually get their calcium from licking rocks in the wild! A calcium deficiency in these types of lizards can cause deformities in their bone structure, and can overall lead to health problems later on

As you can imagine, it's got to take some pretty strong bones to hold up the massive weight that these babies can pack on!

Also, be careful of the tail, as they can drop them to get away from predators! If they stick their tail straight up, and sort of wiggle back and forth, they are kind of stressed and in hunt mode!

Crickets are always a good choice, and they also like mealworms (Gary might like super worms!) and wax worms as a nice fatty treat too! I dusted them all with a calcium powder from PetSmart, and I also got some calcium drops for the water bowl as well!

Overall they are awesome pets and love to be handled, and I do recommend handling them daily to get accustomed to you and the family! They will definitely form a bond with you, and some will even come when called (especially during feeding times!) 💚

I hope you all enjoy him! Some can live up to 30 years in captivity if kept healthy, so it will definitely be a neat experience for you and your son to share! 💚

Great tip! We where actually reading about the calcium thing. But dusting the food was not mentioned. The family who gave us this included a thing of calcium. So I’ll keep that in mind

Gary is a cool Leapord Gecko.
He looks playful and a little devious too.
I'm sure you'll give him a wonderful home where he'll be happy all the time :)
