Púa llego a nosotros en 2020, quiere decir que pertenece a una generación de mascotas con serios problemas de ansiedad por separación debido a la pandemia.
Pero nos estamos adelantando. En este post (un poquitín largo pero entretenido) quiero contarles como esta perrita hermosa llegó a nuestra familia.
Mi señor padre finalmente había accedido a tener un perro en la casa puesto que, y según sus palabras textuales: “Ahora si tenemos tiempo para cuidarlo”. Pues bien, como todo en la vida es negocio mi padre estableció sus condiciones
1.Debe ser un cachorro

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. In this post (a little bit long but entertaining) I want to tell you how this beautiful dog came to our family.
Púa came to us in 2020, which means she belongs to a generation of pets with serious separation anxiety problems due to the pandemic.

My father had finally agreed to have a dog in the house because, according to his words: "Now we have time to take care of him". Well, as everything in life is business, my father established his conditions
1.It must be a puppy

3.He would choose the name
Con eso en mente y con mis valores en alto nos dispusimos a adoptar una perrita. La idea era encontrar a una bonita que nos robara el corazón, con la que sintiéramos una conexión real, pero no fue para nada como nos imaginábamos.
Yo aún tenía la retrograda idea de que adoptar es ir a un refugio de animales, jugar un poco con ellos y elegir la que quisiera. Grasso error.
Los procedimientos para adopción de una mascota han cambiado bastante en mi país, en pro de que el animalito en cuestión llegue a un hogar seguro, con personas amables y que entiendan la gran responsabilidad que ahora está a su cargo, cosa que apoyo completamente.
Pues bien, al comienzo me puse en contacto con varias organizaciones proteccionistas buscando una cachorra y me encontré con largo y muy específico filtro para encontrar el mejor adoptante, con una lista de requisitos de los cuales no cumplíamos ninguno.
With that in mind and with my values held high, we set out to adopt a puppy. The idea was to find a cute one that would steal our hearts, with whom we would feel a real connection, but it was not at all as we imagined.
I still had the backward idea that adopting is to go to an animal shelter, play with them a little bit and choose the one I wanted. Big mistake.
The procedures for adopting a pet have changed a lot in my country, in favor of the animal in question getting to a safe home, with kind people who understand the great responsibility that is now in their charge, which I fully support.
Well, at the beginning I contacted several protectionist organizations looking for a puppy and I found myself with a long and very specific filter to find the best adopter, with a list of requirements of which we did not meet any of them.
Para empezar todos preguntaban nuestro salario, para saber si teníamos la capacidad monetaria para proveer a la perrita de lo esencial, como comida y cuidados veterinarios. Basta decir que nuestro presupuesto no los impresionaba, lo que nos llevaba al segundo requisito…
Querían saber si teníamos una casa propia. Bueno somos dos ventiañeros que viven arrimados en casa del papá… en un barrio de Caracas. Obviamente no es la respuesta que esperan escuchar, y eso vine de la mano con el tercer requisito.
Al ser una mascota adoptada en un refugio, los encargados harían visitas “sorpresas” para validar ellos mismos las condiciones de la perrita.

They wanted to know if we had a home of our own. Well, we're two young adults living in our dad's house... in a ghetto from Caracas. Obviously this is not the answer they expect to hear, and that came hand in hand with the third requirement.
Being a pet adopted in a shelter, the people in charge would make "surprise" visits to validate themselves the conditions of the dog.

Mientras nos enterábamos que todos estos eran los nuevos procedimientos de adopción en casi todos los refugios, nosotros inocentes pero perseverantes, ya habíamos comprado varias cosas como un comedero, una alfombra, juguetes y jabón antialérgico.
Luego de dos meses llegué a un punto en el que estaba considerando seriamente en tomar a cualquier perro de la calle y llevarlo a casa… la cosa era que no encontraba ningún animalito con el que entablar una conexión, aparentemente podían oler mi desesperación a kilómetros

While we were finding out that all these were the new adoption procedures in almost all shelters, we innocent but persevering, we had already bought several things like a feeder, a rug, toys and anti-allergy soap.
After two months I reached a point where I was seriously considering taking any dog off the street and bringing it home... the thing was that I couldn't find any animal to make a connection with, apparently they could smell my desperation a mile away.
Debo aclarar en este punto que una de mis más grandes ilusiones desde siempre fue tener un perro, pero a mi señora madre no le gustan los animales por todo el trabajo que dan, así que durante 26 años tener un perro no era una opción.
Siempre había tenido un loco amor por los Husky, y fue ese amor lo que selló el curso de los acontecimientos.
Pues bien, había llegado el momento de poner en la mesa la opción menos ética y más falta de moral de todas, la que jamás se menciona y es casi vulgar decirlo…Comprar un perro.
Aquí quiero mencionar que el real impedimento en muchos casos como el mío es el trato de desconfianza y descortés en muchos refugios de animales.
Entablar una conversación con ellos mostrando interés en adoptar es muy difícil puesto que su posición es siempre a la defensiva. Nunca esperan a una buena persona que de verdad ame a los animales, sino todo lo contrario. Aunque también entiendo sus razones y todo el sufrimiento por el que pasan.
Con esto en mente empezamos a buscar disimuladamente en páginas (ilegales) de venta de animales, rezando por encontrar a alguien que no fuera un explotador de perros.

Engaging in a conversation with them showing interest in adopting is very difficult since their position is always defensive. They never expect a good person who truly loves animals, quite the opposite. Although I also understand their reasons and all the suffering they go through.
With this in mind we started to slyly search in
(illegal)animal selling pages, praying to find someone who was not a dog exploiter.

La cosa fue que un día de Julio por fin había cumplido un sueño de toda la vida, tenía una perra Husky nada podía ser mejor… o eso creí.
A casi dos años después, mi esposo todavía recuerda la insistencia del revendedor por demostrar que la perrita tenía los ojos azules…
En fin, ya había cumplido dos de las condiciones de mi señor padre. Era una hembra y era cachorra, pero faltaba el tercero.
Finally, my husband came across a publication of a puppy reseller that offered Husky puppies for a reasonable price...quite reasonable.
The thing was, one day in July I had finally fulfilled a lifelong dream, I had a Husky bitch nothing could be better...or so I though
Almost two years later, my husband still remembers the reseller's insistence to prove that the dog had blue eyes....
Anyway, I had already fulfilled two of my father's conditions. She was a female and she was a puppy, but the third was missing.

Decidimos dejarlo a la suerte y escribir los nombres seleccionados en papelitos y tomar uno.
Mi papa no pudo estar más feliz cuando el ganador fue “Moana” que significa océano. Pero hacer el ridículo en la calle como si yo fuera una niña de 10 años no estaba en mis planes, así que empleé la técnica de “golpe de estado” y decidí que su nombre Hawaiano sería “Púa”, que significa flor.

A medida que iba creciendo, notamos que no tenía esa apariencia de panda bebé que tienen todos los cachorros de Husky. Era más pequeña y más atlética.
Por esa época se habían hecho populares los videos de tik tok de “como pensé que sería mi perro / como es en realidad” y nos reíamos mucho… muchísimo.
Con ayuda de ese magnífico avance de la tecnología llamado Google lents nos enteramos que Púa no era una Husky… era un Pastor Suizo.
I had no idea how many times I would have to explain the meaning of his name, because in Spanish it means thorn.
As she got older, we noticed that she didn't have that baby panda look that all Husky cubs have. She was smaller and more athletic.
Around that time tik tok videos of "what I thought my dog would look like / what she's really like" had become popular and we were laughing a lot...a lot.
With the help of that magnificent advance in technology called Google lents we found out that Pua was not a Husky... she was a Swiss Shepherd.
Bueno, ya no importaba, mi preciosa bebé estaba en casa y eso era lo importante.
Quiero finalizar este post dando un resumen de la particular personalidad de mi perra (Porque si no este post se hace eterno)

Es muy desconfiada con los extraños
Y cuando digo mucho, es mucho. Ladra y aúlla a las personas que considera sospechosas, sobretodo con los niños ya que la persona que nos la entregó tenía dos niñas pequeñas, por lo que sospechamos que la trataban como una muñeca más y eso le dejo traumas.
She is very suspicious of strangers
And when I say very, I mean very. She barks and howls at people she considers suspicious, especially with children, since the person who gave her to us had two little girls, so we suspect that she was treated like another doll and that left her with traumas.
Es toda una foodie
Cuando estaba cachorra mi perra probó todas las perrarinas del mercado, y nos dimos cuenta que solo comía las más costosas y si intentábamos con una más económica enseguida se resentía de su estómago.
She is a real foodie
When she was a puppy, my dog tried all the dog food on the market, and we realized that she only ate the most expensive ones and if we tried a cheaper one, her stomach would suffer immediately.
Le encanta ver por la ventana
Luego de darle su paseo diario, a Púa le encanta acompañarme en el “estudio” viendo por la ventana. Puede pasar horas tan solo viendo a la gente pasar y a los niños jugando.
She loves to look out the window
After his daily walk, Púa loves to join me in the "studio" looking out the window. He can spend hours just watching people walk by and children play.
Es la guardiana de la “manada”
Es muy protectora con mi papa, mi esposo y conmigo, pero lo es especialmente con mi mamá y con mi hermano, quien tiene un diagnóstico de autismo. Cuando salimos con ellos ella solo tiene ojos para ellos. Nosotros decimos que está pendiente de la “manada”.
She is the guardian of the "herd".
She is very protective of my dad, my husband and me, but she is especially protective of my mom and my brother, who has a diagnosis of autism. When we go out with them she only has eyes for them. We say she looks out for the "herd".
Es muy simpática con los perros
Le encanta saludar y ser simpática con otros perritos que encuentra en la calle al punto de querer jugar con ellos, pero muchas veces los otros animalitos se sienten intimidados por ella. Los saluda y persigue sin entender porque le huyen.
She is very friendly with dogs
She loves to greet and be friendly with other dogs she meets in the street to the point of wanting to play with them, but many times the other animals feel intimidated by her. She greets and chases them without understanding why they run away from her.
