Pet sitting is a service that people can use to take care of their pets when they are away from home.
It is important for both the pet and the owner because it reduces the separation anxiety for both parties.
The benefits of pet sitting include:
Pet owners don't have to worry about their pets getting lonely, depressed, or anxious while they are away from home.
The pet doesn't have to stay in a kennel or cage all day.
The pet has constant contact with people and other animals which can reduce its anxiety and increase its socialization skills.
The pet's environment remains unchanged while the owner is away, which reduces stress levels for both parties.
My personal experience as a pet sitter:
I started pet sitting professionally about the same time that I started writing and posting here back in 2018 and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life.
Pet sitting has taught me a lot about myself as an individual and it has allowed me to improve my life as a whole.
Being charged with stewardship and the continued responsibility of life and household is quite an opportunity that should not be taken lightly.
I have seen firsthand the relief that pet sitting provides for pets and their owners with consistent support of my services.
Working with puppies and elderly dogs has been a really humbling and therapeutic experience for me.
These are the ages in which people are struggling either with house/behaviour training or health concerns and need the most help outside of vacations or work trips.
The area I live in is the home of Wal Mart so there is a constant flow of new faces coming and going.
I get almost daily requests due to this, but I simply can't serve them all.
I also offer boarding in partnership with my oldest client and while boarding has a better payout it is more stressful for anxious dogs than sitting.
Pet care isn't always a walk in the park and some jobs can be extra demanding, but they serve as a reminder of how serious we should take the care of ourselves and our loved ones.
Personally, I think this is the perfect job for creatives, those who already work remotely and minimalists who are pet lovers and have experience with pet care.
I don't have any other serious engagements that take precedence over pet care, which leaves me with a lifetime of freedom to devote to studies, creative endeavors, entertainment, self-care or building my income streams.
Other Pet Sitters I know and have worked with are working in other fields part-time with pet care, full-time with pet care, and working from home with pet care as well.
My preference is to have open availability for all pet care requests and take one sitting job and one walking job per day.
I use a basic understanding of marketing and design combined with image creation on Canva and other resources for free assets to craft my presence online with the various social platforms.
There are several options in pet care platforms, but I only recommend Rover.
Rover sitting services are definitely a valuable resource for pet owners and pet care providers.
