Today I want to share a story about my pet dogs.
I was sitting outside with them and a gut wrenching feeling came to me. They are getting old and I wish I could stop time.
Playing follow the leader!
I got them 6 years ago when they were both little puppies. They were siblings and their owner was desperate to take them off his hands. He was a military officer and had just got an official notification. He had to leave the country as he was posted abroad.
He got the puppies for his kids but they did not make an effort to train them. The kids were young and knew only how to play with the puppies. I was fortunate enough to respond to the owner and quickly drove with my partner to their place. It was a two hour drive and we left as soon as we got off work. The roads were dark and empty and we did get scared a few times. It felt like some robbers would jump out from the woods and take our car or worse.
We were happy when we first saw the pups though and relieved that we had braved the deserted roads to get to them. They were tiny little things, adorable, with huge glittery eyes. The previous owner had given them blue and red collars.
We took them with us. Both sat in the back seat, panting heavily. I had no idea dogs could be so noisy. Till then I had only kept cats. This was a surprise. I would look back in concern, asking my partner if they were okay. He only laughed.
They have been with us for six years now. They are getting older. They are the most beautiful labradors I have ever seen, and the most dorkiest of all pets. I love them and I treasure the time I have with them.
