So the 4th day in a row I worked on the race track and some self-driving cars. Just a small update...
Now my test car is behaving pretty well and I constructed a nice system to generate, save & play pre-saved tracks in the form of waypoints. (The red dots are the waypoints...) The system works like that I set up a track which consists out of waypoints and as soon as a car reaches a waypoint the car generates further smaller waypoints to get to the next waypoint. The generating of these smaller is happening dynamic - so the cars don't drive on a simple path, but react to other (dynamic) obstacles or other cars on the track.
In general all different test cars (which are versions of the cars you can obtain as NFT later) have different characteristics. They accelerate faster, have an higher top speed or different brake force.
When steering is detected over a specific angles, the car brakes a little bit - depending on the amount of steering. Plus I generated a small randomizer - so the brake force varies from braking to breaking. This brings in more variety and a more natural behavior. But more important: it makes the whole race progress more dynamic.
So... yes, tomorrow I have to tune the acceleration/braking/brake on steering on every car a little bit more and include a respawn mechanism if a self-driven car should get stuck anyhow, but all in all I am very satisfied about the actual progress. It is a huge joy to see 30 cars on the track, push other cars out of the corner, drive & use their specific motor settings and so on. Really entertaining. I didn't drove against them until now, but it looks that I am on a good way that this will be fun.
Maybe I make a betting system out of and a weekly video where you can bet on your favorite. Not because it would be necessary, but because it is a thrill to see the cars interact, bump into each other and so on...
So... Okay, enough explaining the doings of the day; I will go back into the code...
See you later!
