Pleasant greetings to you all.
Earning a living is a societal acceptable way of making money especially when the source is a legitimate one. In my society, it is considered a taboo to be of legal age and not yet earning a living, such a peraon will be looked at as a lazy bone. The income earned goes a long way to support the family by meeting family needs and paying off debts and bills.
I am an educator or simply put in a lay man's language a class teacher. I have been at this occupation for a little over ten years and counting and from this job, I am able to earn income that is needed to run my household.
If you know anything about teaching, then you will attest to the fact that the monthly pay is not proportional to the work load. With all the stress involved, the teacher only goes home with something so minimal that the pay is nit enough to sustain the home till the next pay day.
I love my job no doubt. I am happy seeing the smiles on the faces of the beautiful kids when they have just learned something new. I also like the look of awe on their faces when I correct some myths and misconceptions that have been passed down to them through story telling. A good example is "why the tortoise has a rough shell". The myth claimed that tortoise was thrown from the sky due to its greed when tortoise was invited to a party in the air hehe. What a story!
I also like the job due to its time flexibility. I only work five days in a week from 8am to 3pm when school closes for the day. This affords me time to attend to other areas of my social life and seek out other mrans of making money. Another key factor to note is that teaching especially in the sciences, gives me a means to fully express myself and present theories to the expectant children. Being a teacher is more than just being in a classroom, it entails being supportive, being a friend to the students, cheering them on, being a nurse to them and finally being a mother to them as well.
Teaching would have been ranked as the number one job on the planet if it were not for the low pay.
Due to the low income gotten from working as a teacher in my country, there is need to stretch and look for other sources of income to support the mainstream income. This is not an easy feat to take on due to the stress involved in joggling two or more jobs but it gets better with time.
As much as I like the job, I don't see myself in a classroom forever. I see myself establishing businesses and becoming an entrepreneur, managing the businesses with my staff and family. This is one of my goals and it will become a reality soon.
Thank you all for reading. This is my entry to the #indiaunited prompt for week #19.
