Talking about what I do for a living in my current stage of life, I have a lot on my plate, but it's very unstable since I'm not officially employed in a big job. I'm doing what I basically call 'hustling,' and this hustling comes in different forms depending on my circumstances and time schedule.
I'm still job hunting, searching for a job with a bigger pay, which is really difficult in a country like mine. So, I’ve resorted to doing menial jobs in the form of temporary employment to keep up with life.
Currently, I'm into site cleaning.
This is the major job I’m doing because it comes more often than others. This involves joining a team to clear and clean up a building site that's about to be used by the owner or when the engineer has finished all the work. We give the house the final finishing touch: cleaning the rooms, mopping the floors, dusting the windows, clearing grass outside, removing blocks from the area, and making the environment livable.
The pay for this job comes per project, either daily, weekly, or when the contract is finished, depending on how I was contracted. The pay isn’t that big, but it’s manageable and covers a significant part of my life expenses, especially feeding, which is the major drain on my money. Depending on the contract or how I’m called, we often travel out of town and spend days or weeks away from home, but there’s no cause for alarm because it’s all for the money.
Another job I do to earn a living is working on construction sites as part of the building crew.
I’m not the mason, but I assist the mason by supplying blocks and mixing mortar for them to use in laying the blocks. In situations where the workload is heavy, I also carry blocks to the mason while they work on the scaffold.
I do this work casually, usually when I don’t have the site cleaning job mentioned earlier. The pay is usually on a daily basis, but the work is strenuous and tiring.
