Today I'm going to show you the recovery of a Vigorelli sewing machine that I made in the last few days.

IMG_20240221_090633.jpg

The machine is a Robot model manufactured by Vigorelli here in Brazil in 1972, the factory made the last model which was the Claudia ZZA produced by Vigorelli in Brazil in 1981. Shortly afterwards the company stopped manufacturing Sewing Machines and subsequently ended up going bankrupt and closing.

That's why it's very difficult to buy spare parts. This machine had many problems and was therefore abandoned for many years. I will identify the defects.

1- Defective shuttle gears, this is one of the only construction defects of this machine. The gears are made of a plastic material that breaks when the machine stops and the seamstress forces the steering wheel.

2- the stitch selection button was also broken due to being forced.

3- the point selection mechanism was blocked by dry oil that had formed a crust in the Archimedes cylinder.

4- the needle bar was stuck in the zigzag movement.

5- the shuttle showed a lot of wear both in terms of the length of the tip and the thickness of the body.

6- the bobbin case and corresponding bobbin were missing.

After disassembling the mechanisms mentioned above, the parts were cleaned and lubricated.

The solution found to replace the gears was to adapt the iron gears of the Elgin zigzag machine.

I had to use a turner service to grind the end of the shaft to make it compatible with the large gear and I had to have a bushing fitted to the small gear.

A new shuttle with bobbin case and bobbin was installed.

After the assembly and adjustment procedures, the machine was tested on fabric and mesh and presented an excellent result.

I love this old machines

Nice fix on a nice older machine. It's good to see people restoring older devices rather than throwing them out!

Wow what an incredible restoration journey! What a great passion and effort you put in making this Vigorelli sewing machine of yours come back to life. I love the way you found all the faults and repaired them, thus turning problems into opportunities for improvement. The way you described each step involved shows that your knowledge and experience in the field are quite rich. Thank you very much for sharing this story with us since it is such an example of strength and artistry.

That’s so cool! I’ve never tried restoring any type of machine before as I believe it requires technical knowledge and good mental recall in order not to mess up the parts.

You did a great job on this sewing machine 🫡

Great that you were able to fix the machine!
That's the part about old machines I like, we're able to fix thzm as they are merely consisting out of mechanical pieces instead of programmed chips :D
