As a not so new newbie, I have found myself pondering on this topic a lot. Ideas to promote Hive. I had not heard of the Hive Blockchain before. I was looking for a good website to publish content and though I saw options like Medium, I didn't think it would work for me. Then, my friend introduced me to Hive. He had read some of my stories before and he felt I was good enough to publish my works on Hive. So, he onboarded me. While doing that, I wouldn't lie, it was a bit hard. Firstly, I couldn't really wrap my head around the navigation processes and the guidelines and the rules but my friend was patient enough to lead me step by step. While making my way slowly through Hive, I noted some things that I felt could help promote the Blockchain.
As we all know, the Web3 is gaining traction in the digital world but still, most people use the Web2 platforms because it is easier to create an account, reach an audience, gain followers and interact, though it is not decentralized. I don't think we have enough visibility on these platforms and that's where our target audience is. We are looking to bring people from Web2 platforms into Web3 platforms and that means we have to meet them where they are first. We need to run ad campaigns, promotion posts and market the Blockchain to them. We need to show them why the Blockchain would be beneficial and profitable to them. I think an ad campaign for Hive was run on X a year ago or so. I saw it on my friend's X account but I don't think the ad gained enough traction as we would have liked and this brings me to another focal point.
Since Elon took over X, there has been some great changes. Before it was easier to market the Web3 Blockchain on X, but now there has been some restrictions which is why I think we should be looking at other social media platforms like Facebook, IG, LinkedIn, TikTok and others. X is also a great place to showcase the Hive Blockchain but Elon has been putting some restrictions in place. Firstly, you can only gain as much engagement as you would like if you had a blue tick to your name. Secondly, Elon has somehow been restricting the marketing of cryptocurrency and Web3 blockchains due to the onslaught of new airdrop projects and tapping what-nots. But still, i think that if we had people linking their articles on Hive to their Twitter posts, it would make the promotion of Hive easier.
Another point is optimizing our content so as to rank better in search engines. If people searched for short stories or articles on how to bake cake, effects of social media e.t.c on Google, the hive front ends like Ecency, InLeo and PeakD should be among the first search results. The front ends should be showing top ranking articles that are related to whatever people searched about. I think that this is how Medium gains it's visibility and I also think that this is a good way of promoting the Hive Blockchain.
Also, there should be more onboarders and more support for newbies on the Hive Blockchain and I have only seen few communities doing that, supporting newbies, that is. I think we might have heard of new people joining the Blockchain, spending a few weeks on it and then leaving, because they did not understand the workings of the Blockchain and did not get enough support. Quality and legit content from newbies should be supported and promoted. Also, there should be an online onboarder at hand who would guide the newbies through the basics of the Blockchain. If a newbie joins the Blockchain through an online website, there should be somebody ready to guide them. I think this will aid and enhance the growth of the community and stop people from leaving.
Collaboration with other legit crypto communities and projects would be ideal as it would lead the Blockchain to a wider audience who already know and believe in Web3.
These are the thinkpieces that I have been pondering on. And I hope they can also be useful in promoting Hive.
