To prevail good over evil, the descend of Devi Durga to earth starts from Mahalaya which comes every year in month of September or october (Bengali Ashwin mash ). This is the start of biggest festival of Bengal, a Indian state. Actual worship begins after ten days of Mahalaya. Each and every corner turns into new colour with decoration of lights and artistic work. Though it is a Hindu Festival, people from every caste and religion go mad to celebrate the occassion.

The entire events during 20 days is telecasted on TV. From childhood I had a notion , this show in TV is called Mahalaya. Later when a grow up a litte , I got to know it's just a programme to alarm the descend of Devi. Everyone, specially children get up early in the morning to watch the show. The show represents how why Devi needs to come on earth and how she eliminates Mahishasur, the leader of demon, the eveil. What I like the most is its devine mantras and dance of Devi. The mantras prosses a power to make yourselves pure from inside, it won't allow you to perform demonic activity.
You know her by one name but she got many names. Let me inform you some of her names: Mahayamaya, Mahishasurmadini, Dasavuja, Mahashakti etc. Each name jas its significance. She processes limitless Energy, that's why she is called Mahashakti. She got ten hands, so she is called Dasavuja. She kills Mahishasur, so she is Mahishasur Mardini.. The other names also have relevance but I ma unware of them.
There are two sides of Mahalya. In one hand, people invites Devi to come here on earth to fight Mahisasur and on the other hand, people pray and remind their roots. People are seen near ponds and rivers to perform the ritual.
The Devi' Children is also worshipped. In Durga puja Devi is seen with her children. The craftmen make idol of Devi along with her chldren: Kartika, Ganesh, Laxmi, Saraswati. People celebrate their individual worship in coming days but it starts with Devi Durga's.
This is the relief of time for children. Schools and coleges are in leave for 30 days(approx). Children keep themselves aways from books. They got enormous time to paly around and enjoy the biggest festival of Devi Durga. In different part of world, The Hindus celebrates it. In india not only in begal but also it is celebrated in Asam , Odish and bihar, Indian states.
Last year, I didn't visited may puja pandels. So I just made one or two posts about the occassion but this year I promise you, I'll bring at least 7 posts about her with her different representations in different parts of Bengal. You will get to know how world's biggest celebration is found in west bengal.
