Birdie

Once upon a time a time there was a not so little blue bird called Birdie. Birdie was big blue, tough and notorious for living life to the fullest. He was a wild bird and didn't abide by any rules. He simply did what he wanted and didn't do or care about what anyone said. The majority of the birds around him were domestic birds and as such some of them could not understand his lifestyle. Truth is at some point Birdie was also a domestic bird but he left that life due to some differences with his previous owner. And as such he told himself he wouldn't need an owner ever again.

But then on this fateful day, birdie got his foot stuck in a wire mesh fence. He happened to be flying solo that day (as he often does). He screamed and shouted and called for help but there was no one nearby to assist him. He waited and waited, but it seemed like no one was going to pass that route and rescue him that day. He started panicking and struggling but he couldn't get himself free. He was starting to fear that he may have to lose his legs.
And just when he'd finally lost all hope he saw someone in the background. She was wearing a blue top and white shorts. She walked closer and could see Birdie in pain. She gestured to him to keep calm and she left for a few minutes. She returned with some cutters and she used them to free him from the wire mesh. His legs were still injured so she took him home and nursed him till he was back to full health. Then she offered him the chance to be free.

Birdie had enjoyed being free to do what he wanted, but he had to admit that he had started growing fond of having an owner. He decided that he was going to stay and enjoy having an owner. Birdie didn't realize that having an owner was so much fun. It had been long since he had one. He was well fed, and taken care of and although once in a while he and his owner would have disagreements he loved her.

But then, things change so suddenly. His owner had to move to a new state, in that state there was no room for birds. Birdie was devastated and so was his owner, but then it had been her dream to move to that city and she couldn't bin those dreams for Birdie. Birdie understood, but it didn't stop him from hurting nonetheless.

He was back in the free world once more. Birdie used to enjoy being free but now he didn't want that anymore. All the things he used to enjoy now felt bland. He didn't want a new owner as well cause he didn't even feel motivated to get one. He hurt and just existed for what felt like an eternity. And eventually, he learned to live like he used to. It wasn't as fun as it used to be but at least it was no longer the hell it was at the start.

One faithful day, Birdie had a terrible day. He was attacked by a racoon and barely survived. He was able to get away, but he broke a wing. He felt really sad about this but he was just thankful he was alive. He got back to the tree near his nest where he met some birds gathered. He told them his predicament and to his surprise they didn't seem to care. Some of them even laughed at how funny he looked when he tried to fly. He joined them in laughing, but deep down he was sad. He missed his owner so much. Surely if she were there she'd help him nurse his wounds rather than make fun of him. It was at that moment that Birdie realized how truly alone he was.
