For thousands of years, I have existed.
In plain sight I hid,
No attention drawn to me
No human knew I existed
Civilization of Mesopotamia found me
Discovered what I am made of
Discovered I relieve pain.
My kind became treasured
Out of a Poppy plant I came out from
To relieve their pain
They used me, discarded me rudly
I smiled,
Knowing that they would come back
And they did
Not knowing my full potential
They used me in excess
To cure their pain permanently.
Instead I bring both pain and relief
I numb their senses,
Their soul remains out of reach
I need to enslave them, I planned
The more they used me,
I saw a way to enslave them in disguise
With my power,
I lured them into a place of bliss
An evanescent happiness, a lasting pain
I filled their void
Then I enslaved them
With every use of my power,
My bonds and shackles becomes tighter
I became irresistible,
I became sweet and cruel,
I became seductive,
I became a voice in their heads
With promises to cure their pains.
Their addiction for me grew more
I filled their void to have a tighter grip
They surrendered their will to me
Now I control them, I own them
Now I hunger for their addiction
My bond with them becomes stronger
I become a toxic poison in their veins
My hunger satisfied, my poison is inevitable
I begin to infect their blood
My poison crushes their lungs
Eat their livers as a full course meal
Suffocate their minds and brains
Taking them to an aphotic realm
Then I surrender them to the hands of Death
