Hello again! How have you been? I honestly need to try and post this story more often. But anyway, hope your having a good day and let's continue!
I tried to run but I wasn't getting anywhere. It was like swimming in the deepest parts of the ocean. You can't see anything and you don't feel anything except the pressure building up upon your chest, dragging you down deeper and deeper until you ran out of air.
I kept screaming and yelling. I kept getting no answer. That just made me want to scream louder.
"Alex, what the hell are you doing here? You can't be that stupid," a voice said. I turned and saw one face I didn't want to see again. Nick.
I noticed his eye, which was black and blue. "Nice eye," I said, crossing my arms. He sighed. "Your friend has a good punch, I'll give her that."
"So why are you here," Nick asked me. I chuckled. "I could ask you the same question."
"Punishment. I failed to bring you in, and King Zek wasn't particularly pleased with that," Nick said, sitting down. I joined him.
"That's harsh," I said. Nick shrugged. "Us Reapers have to be the best. Disciplined. Perfection."
I chuckled. "Perfect isn't real. It's just something adults tell kids to scare them." Nick shook his head. "You're not a Reaper."
"If it's that bad why don't you try a different job?" Nick laughed. "Of course you would say that Mr. law breaker. You know that doing so is against the law. It's more minor of a crime, but I'd still get thrown in the Place of the Broken."
I got up and stuck out my hand to help Nick. "Come on," I said. He looked at me suspiciously before taking my hand and getting up.
"We don't have to be enemies Nick. And honestly I don't want us to be. You know this is messed up."
Nick sighed. "Alex, you are breaking a law. I can't turn a blind eye towards that. She has to die."
I shook my head violently. "That's the point! She doesn't. She isn't supposed to die. We talked to her spirit animal and-"
"You what," he exclaimed.
I waved it off. "Not important. The point is she wasn't supposed to die yet. Nick, you have to believe me." Nick shook his head and crossed his arms. "I don't have to do anything."
"Nick please," I said. He looked down.
"I wish I could," he whispered. "But I can't. I'm sorry Alex." Then he turned around and walked away, and as he did his body disappeared in the darkness.
I looked around. There had to be a way out of here. I closed my eyes. How did the thing they do in the Wizard of Oz go? There's no place like home? I tried that. Didn't work.
Suddenly, I felt invisible hands on my shoulders. I tried to push them off but when I did they slapped my arm and shook me.
When I opened my eyes, I was back in the living world. The others were all sitting around me with worried faces. "Hi," I said, my voice hoarse from all the yelling. Jordan hugged me. When she let go she punched my arm. "You idiot," she said.
I rubbed my arm. Nick was right about her punching abilities. "How long was I out," I asked. Lena checked her watch. "4 hours and 21 minutes, to be exact," she said.
"What did you see," Jordan asked. I sighed. "That guy, he's powerful. Like, really powerful. He was able to control his own dreams."
Zack gasped, then realized he had no idea what that meant. "That can't be good can it?" I shook my head. Henry pulled out a slingshot. "We can take him." "Yeah, we can," Will said, jumping out of his seat. Zack nodded with a smirk. "We're not scared of him." Suddenly there was a knock on the door and all 3 of the boys jumped.
"Maybe not the best idea," Jordan said laughing, getting up to answer the door. "Wait, wait, wait," i said getting up and standing in front of her. "What if it's a killer or a Reaper or something?" Jordan rolled her eyes. "Oh come on."
She tried to walk by but I blocked her. I shook my head. "Not happening. I'll answer it." Lena laughed. "Alex, you were just in someones dream. That drains energy. Any Reaper or killer would be able to throw you across the room like a toothpick right now. I got it."
She answered the door before any of us could object. The person at the door wasn't a killer or a Reaper, luckily. It was Cory. "Um, hello. Who are you," Cory asked Lena. Lena glared at her. "I could ask you the same question."
"Lena, this is Cory. She's a friend of mine," Jordan said to Lena. Cory stuck out her hand for Lena to shake, who returned the gesture. Cory asked to come in and Jordan nodded. Cory walked in and saw everyone here.
"Well, I know you two," she said, pointing to Will and Henry. Then she looked at me. "And I just met you." She then turned to Zack and Lena. "But I have never seen you two here before."
I gave her a fake smile. "This is my brother, Zack. Right, bro," I said, putting my arm around Zack. He looked at me confused and then at Cory. "Oh! Yeah! This is my idiotic big brother," Zack said, smiling the same way I was.
I looked at Lena. She sighed. "I'm the...new maid. Right Jordan?" Jordan nodded. Cory cocked her head to the side. "You never said anything about hiring someone to me," she said. Jordan shrugged. "Came out of the blue. So, why are you here?"
Cory crossed her arms. "You haven't been at work for a while. I understand, you did just go through a very traumatic experience, but Jackson says they need the star or else you'll be recast."
"What is wrong with him," I asked. Jordan looked at me, eyes wide.
"I mean, you literally almost just died," I continued. "Your still not in great shape. That is just so messed up!" Jordan sighed. "Tell Jackson I need a few more days," she said to Cory. Cory nodded.
"Well, you relayed the information, you can go now," Lena said. "Oh, well I was hoping me and Jordan could practice our lines, if your up for it," Cory said. Jordan looked around and then nodded. "Sure. Come on." The two went upstairs.
"I need to go," I said. Lena laughed until she realized I was serious. "Are you kidding? You just got back!" I shrugged. "Somebody else needs the help of the amazing Alex Quek. I'm sorry, but I have to help her." Lena sighed. "Alex, if you get hurt or die or-"
"I'll be fine. Just stay here and keep Jordan safe, okay? And keep them," I said, motioning to the boys. "Out of trouble."
The boys gasped. "We won't get in trouble," Will exclaimed. "Yeah, we're very behaved," Henry agreed. "How could you be so rude to your fake brother," Zack said, acting offended. I rolled my eyes. "Just be careful." I then left to go find Ann and, hopefully, save her from dying.
I swear, I'm becoming a freaking vigilante.
There we go! Hope you enjoyed!
