Hello! I hope you enjoy this. 😉
I walked through the streets with my hood up, because of course it was raining. I swear, I'm starting to like the living world less and less. But I kept trudging through the mud and rain.
Okay, I'll admit it, I had no idea where I was going. I didn't exactly know where Ann lived or where she was. In fact, I really didn't know much about her at all. I was beginning to question what I was even doing. I was barely keeping Jordan safe. She had gotten into a car crash only a few days ago and was lucky to be alive. I knew Ann wouldn't want my help. So how could I help someone who wanted nothing to do with me?
I was about to give up hope when I felt someone walking behind me. You know when you're watching a horror movie, and you can just tell the monster or murderer is about to jump out and kill another victim? That's how I felt walking through the rain.
I pulled my hood tighter around my head and sped up, but I wasn't going to lose anyone on an empty street, so I zigzagged to a alleyway, which I only realized was a bad idea when it was too late to turn back.
Because I'm an idiot.
Behind me I heard the footsteps of whoever was coming after me. I wondered if the person would be able to kill me. I was technically already dead. I couldn't die a second time, could I?
Before I could finish my thought, Someone grabbed my shoulder and pushed me against the hard stone wall of the buildings. "What do you want," I whined. I was tired of being ambushed by people, both dead and alive. I couldn't walk down the street without almost dying, and it was really starting to irritate me.
The person took off their own hood. It was Ann, wearing an all black outfit. My eyes widened. Well, I found her.
"Why are you here," she whispered angrily. I pushed her away from me. "Taking in the scenery," I said sarcastically. She rolled her eyes.
"Listen, Alex was it? I know you're up to something. I mean, you come around just when everything starts going downhill, and just so happen to be best friends with Jordan even though she's never mentioned you?" I shrugged. "I think you're going too in depth about this."
Ann shook her head and chuckled. "No, I haven't gone deep enough. So much is happening that I don't understand, and you are part of it." I looked straight at her, smile dropping. "Listen, Ann. If I tell you what I really am, whats really going on, there's no going back. Knowing all of this means your a part of it." Ann nodded. "Tell me everything."
I did. I told her everything. About the Afterlife, about Jordan's possible death in 2 days, and about everything we had tried to prevent it. Ann just listened, looking down. When I was done, she didn't speak for a long time. She just stood there, until finally she looked back up at me. "You're in way over your head," she said.
I nodded with a chuckle. "I know."
"So, you want to help me," she asked slowly. I shrugged. "Not all of us are selfish." Ann scoffed. "I'm not selfish." I rolled my eyes. "Whatever," I said.
Just then, something flew past my head. I turned around to see a man dressed all in black. I had no idea who this guy was other than the obvious fact that he was a killer.
"What's your plan, dead guy," Ann whispered to me. I took a deep breath. "We run."
The two of us ran as quick as our legs could carry us. You know how in scary movies the killer always walks while the leads run? That isn't true. The killer chased after us, not even stopping once. He must've had good stamina, because I was dying. I'm not not athletic, I'm just more into other things than you know, working out. I was fast though, and I was using that to my advantage.
I heard gun shots as I continued to run. I saw Ann fall behind and grabbed her arm, dragging her with me.
Suddenly, for the second time in less than an hour, someone grabbed me, pulling me into a small hidden area, and pushed me against a wall.
This time it was Nick.
"Hey Nick," I said calmly. He smirked. "You're welcome," he said, getting off me.
"So, you made the right decision," I asked. He shook his head. "I'm not here to help you. I'm simply here because someone is about to die. You being here is just a simple coincidence."
I turned to Ann and realized what Nick meant.
Ann had been shot. Her blood was spilling all around her as she laid down on the concrete. I crouched next to her. "No, Ann, you're going to be okay." Nick scoffed. "Don't lie to her."
"Shut up," I said, not even looking back.
Ann held her hand to the bullet wound. Tears rolled down her cheeks. "I don't wanna die, please, I don't wanna die. I'm not ready," she cried. I turned to Nick. "Call someone you idiot!" He shook his head. "Sorry Alex, but it's too late."
I turned back to Ann. She was about to close her eyes. "Don't you even think about it. You're going to be fine. Absolutely fine," I said, my eyes getting glassy.
Ann shook her head. "I don't wanna die, but I'm going to. Please, go." I didn't want to leave her. The idea was insane. She was dying. She needed medical help right now. Nick grabbed my arm. "I'm sorry, Alex, but we need to go." I looked back at Ann one last time. She was still crying but she managed a small smile. I then ran, leaving her there, hot tears now coming down my cheeks.
I failed. I couldn't save Ann. I didn't have much confidence in saving Jordan to begin with, but now? Now I had lost all of the little confidence I had left.
You're in way over your head, Ann had said. Now I realized just how right she was.
Probably the darkest ending yet. I know this makes me sound like a psychopath, but this was actually kind of cool to write. I haven't written many death scenes.
Now to ask you all a question like I do every chapter, that none of you ever answer. What do you think of Nick, and why?
Goodbye!
