I don't love the ending, but I didn't know how to end it. However, this chapter was pretty fun to write, which is nice after those dark chapters. Plus, I'm pretty sure this is the longest chapter so far, which I find weird but cool. Hope you enjoy it!
If Lena had survived, she would've been great as part of the police force.
Not only had she died trying to stop some robbers, but she knew how to shoot a gun and didn't seem out of place in the police station, which is where we were now. Mr. Pensie was with us. A policeman came over to us.
"Are you alright, kid," he asked me. I nodded. "Again, I'm so sorry, Alex. You could've gotten hurt. Hell, you could've been killed. I should've been more careful," Mr. Pensie said, his head in his hands. I gave him a small smile. "It's alright, sir. I'm fine. Everything is going to be fine."
I felt so bad lying to him.
I knew things weren't going to get any easier for me or the Pensies. I almost got shot in the head. Jordan was in the hospital and someone was planning on killing her. And I had a feeling this killer wouldn't be afraid to hurt the rest of Jordan's family if they got in the way. They were at risk every second until this killer was caught.
Lena put her hand on my shoulder. It was strange seeing her in a different body. However, I had to admit that Lena had possessed someone who looked a lot like she would when she got older. Long black hair, tan skin, all of that. The biggest thing though was the spark in her eyes. That was how I knew this was Lena. She had this mischievous look in her eyes at all times, this look that made her seem incredibly immature and in her own little world, like she made a joke only she would understand. It made her look like a space cadet (aka someone who isn't all there, and their attention span is the equivalent of somebody floating through space).
"Well, Mr. Pensie, I really need to talk with Alex about the incident. I promise it'll only take an hour or so," Lena said. Mr. Pensie looked at me, uncertain. I gave him a nod and mouthed "She's trustworthy." Mr. Pensie sighed and nodded at Lena, who gripped me by the shoulders and led me down the hallway, out a back door, and into an abandoned alleyway.
"Lena, why are you here? You know what the Reapers will do if they find out you left too," I said. Lena took a deep breath. "I know. But I couldn't just wait and see if you would succeed. I wanted to help, me and Zack both did. And there wasn't much I could do in the Afterlife," Lena explained, letting go of my shoulders.
"Did you find out who the killer was," Lena asked? I shook my head. She sighed. "I have one lead. That guy Zack was talking about, Lee Parker sometimes got assignments from a man named Jakob Wellwater. From what I found, he works at a bar called 'Cheers and Beers.'"
I nodded. "Then let's go."
When we got there, the place was packed. I had no idea how we'd find Wellwater in here. We sat at the bar. "Aren't you a little young for the bar," a bartender said. I glared at him. "Buddy, I'm older than you by at least a decade," I said. The bartender chuckled. "Alrighty then." He then left to check on other guests.
"So, any idea where he could be," I asked Lena. She shrugged. I sighed. The bartender came back. "Couldn't help but overhear, are you looking for someone? Parent perhaps?" I wondered if I could trust him. "Do you know Jakob Wellwater," I asked? His face turned grim. "Who's asking?"
"Look, Mr, you either tell us where he is, or I'll personally make sure you die a year earlier than needed," Lena said. The bartender sighed. "Fine. Come with me." We followed.
The Bartender went into a back room and locked the door behind us. "Now, what do you want from me?" "You're him," I said. He nodded. Lena stepped up. "Do you know where Lee Parker is?" Wellwater's eyes got foggy. "Been a while, to be honest. Doesn't talk to many people anymore. I saw him a few days ago talking to some girl in a fluffy blue coat. She was an actress. I wanna say her name was Anna. No, it was Ann. Definitely Ann."
It couldn't be, could it? The Ann I saw when Jordan was filming, they couldn't be the same person. Sure, divas can be annoying, but they usually don't try and kill people. Lena noticed. "You know Ann," she whispered to me. I hesitated, then nodded. "Possibly." I turned to Wellwater. "How old was she?" He shrugged. "Around 13. Why do you ask?"
Okay, this part of the story may not be entirely accurate. Why?
2 reasons.
I, the narrator, wasn't there, so I had to gather what happened from the boys.
The boys tend to exaggerate and I can never tell whether they're lying or not.
So, yeah, sorry if this sounds stupid or crazy.
Will and Henry were doing what they always do, trying to catch ghosts. Both were entirely obsessed with all things supernatural and paranormal. It was honestly kind of creepy.
Anyway, they were trying to catch ghosts when they heard footsteps, loud footsteps. Both kids' parents weren't home. That may sound dumb, but the two were mature enough (Will was, Henry wasn't) and old enough (Henry was, Will wasn't) to take care of themselves.
The boys went to check it out and found a man in a black cloak. In his hand was a scythe. Will motioned with his hands. The two could communicate without speaking (No, they don't know sign language or any other language except English for that matter. No, they do not know morse code. For all I know, they created their own language with weird hand signals). Who is that guy Will asked. Henry shrugged. Maybe he's a ghost! Will smiled. Should we introduce ourselves? Henry smiled back. Duh!
"Hello," Henry said. The ghost guy looked at Henry and scowled. "I'm here for Jordan Pensie. Give her to me and you won't be harmed." Henry glared at the man. "Sorry, ghosty, but no one touches my sister." He pulled out a ghost vacuum and tried to suck the ghost in. He laughed. "Honestly, were all of us this dumb when we were alive? Well, sorry boys, but you leave me no choice." He swung his scythe in the air and swung at Henry, who barely got out of the way. "Now what," Will asked. "We run," Henry answered.
The boys ran, throwing things at the ghost without fear (their words, not mine). They ended up getting backed up to a wall. "Any ideas," Henry asked. Will looked around and smirked. "Maybe."
Will rolled under the ghost and grabbed some soda. He shook it and then opened it. The liquid burst out, splashing the ghost in the face. Will and Henry both punched him in the gut and he fell to the ground.
"Any last words," Henry asked. The ghost sighed. "Nick's gonna kill me." Then he disappeared. Will and Henry looked at each other and high-fived. "That was awesome!" "Totally!"
I swear, only those two can almost get killed by a Reaper and say it was awesome.
Will Henry and Will help Alex save Jordan? Also, cause I'm curious, who do you hate the most and who do you like? Answer in the comments if you want!
