In this opportunity I want to present you some strategies that I am using with my child to improve his spelling. He is currently in second grade, and I have observed that he has improved in reading and writing, however, every day he is learning new words so it is necessary to reinforce his learning with activities that help and motivate him to read and write the words that are frequently used correctly.
Es importante acompañarlos en casa para mejorar su escritura, esta tarea puede parecer aburrida, estresante o muy difícil para los padres, por lo que hay que tener paciencia y practicar mucho, pero especialmente, buscar que lo disfruten, ser creativos e incentivarlos a mejorar cada día.
It is important to accompany them at home to improve their writing, this task may seem boring, stressful or very difficult for parents, so you have to be patient and practice a lot, but especially, look for them to enjoy it, be creative and encourage them to improve every day.
Como sabemos, escribir con errores ortográficos se relaciona con poca preparación y conocimientos, y estas fallas pueden arrastrarse a lo largo de sus estudios, limita oportunidades, y no permite una buena transferencia del mensaje. Es por ello que debemos enfocarnos en que los niños tengan una buena ortografía y elaboren escritos de calidad además de que conozcan su importancia y dominen la mayoría de las reglas para lograrlo.
As we know, writing with spelling mistakes is related to poor preparation and knowledge, and these faults can drag throughout their studies, limiting opportunities and not allowing a good transfer of the message. That is why we must focus on children having a good spelling and elaborate quality writings, as well as knowing their importance and mastering most of the rules to achieve it.
En casa podemos realizar actividades y juegos didácticos sencillos, aquí les presento algunos.
At home we can do simple didactic activities and games, here are some of them.
Una forma de practicar es “completando palabras” que generalmente tienden a confundir con cual letra se escriben, por ejemplo la “g /j”, “s/z”, “m/n” entre otras, de acuerdo a su edad podemos repasar inicialmente las reglas gramaticales que apliquen según sea el caso. En este caso elaboré una lista con palabras que se escriben con “V y B” que complementé con algunas imágenes que pueden servir de guía y ayudarlos a memorizar mejor las palabras que posteriormente pueden colorear, y de esta manera también se distraen.
One way to practice is "completing words" that generally tend to confuse with which letter they are written, for example "g / j", "s / z", "m / n" among others, according to their age we can initially review the grammatical rules that apply as appropriate. In this case I elaborated a list with words that are spelled with "V and B" that I complemented with some images that can serve as a guide and help them to memorize better the words that later they can color, and in this way they can also be distracted.
Se pueden emplear distintos colores para las letras que completan la palabra, de esta manera se enfocará más la atención del niño, adicionalmente se puede practicar con la palabra que se ha tenido problema visualizándola en su mente fijando así la forma correcta de escribirla. También se pueden escribir oraciones donde se incluyan las letras con las que se trabajan y así poco a poco se van estudiando otros grupos de palabras.
You can use different colors for the letters that complete the word, this way the child's attention will be more focused, additionally you can practice with the word that has been a problem visualizing it in your mind and thus fixing the correct way to write it. You can also write sentences that include the letters you are working with, and little by little you can study other groups of words.
Otra manera de complementar el estudio es por medio de las “familias de palabras”, esta actividad consistió en escribir palabras con V y B, para que escribiera palabras derivadas de la palabra principal y de esta manera se refuerza el conocimiento y establece la relación entre ellas y su forma de escribirlas.
Another way to complement the study is through the "word families", this activity consisted of writing words with V and B, so that he could write words derived from the main word and in this way reinforces the knowledge and establishes the relationship between them and how to write them.
También se pueden trabajar con imágenes, por lo que elaboré una plantilla con diferentes dibujos en la que el niño debe completar con las palabras escritas correctamente y de esta manera vincula la imagen y la palabra.
You can also work with images, so I made a template with different drawings in which the child must complete with the words spelled correctly and thus links the image and the word.
Finalmente se puede jugar al detective. Aquí podemos escribir un texto con algunas fallas ortográficas y los niños se encargarán de encontrar las palabras escritas incorrectamente bien sea subrayando con color o encerrándolas en un círculo, por cada palabra que acierten van ganando puntos y al finalizar si es posible se pueden premiar con algún dulce u otro incentivo por su esfuerzo, se divertirán y se sentirán más motivados a aprender. Al finalizar, y para reforzar, se puede hacer una lista de palabras en las que no detectaron el error, de esta manera fijaran mejor su atención en cómo se escribe correctamente para próximos juegos.
Finally, you can play detective. Here we can write a text with some spelling mistakes and the children will be in charge of finding the incorrectly written words either underlining with color or enclosing them in a circle, for each word they get right they will earn points and at the end if possible they can be rewarded with some candy or other incentive for their effort, they will have fun and will feel more motivated to learn. At the end, and to reinforce, you can make a list of words in which they did not detect the error, in this way they will fix their attention better on how to write correctly for future games.
También se puede emplear como ayuda el diccionario. Con esta actividad no solo aprenderá como se escriben correctamente las palabras sino también se familiarizará con su uso, y fomenta la investigación desde pequeños. Cuando se tenga dudas de cómo se escribe una palabra la pueden ubicar en el diccionario, lo que les ayudará a conocer palabras nuevas.
The dictionary can also be used as an aid. With this activity not only learn how to spell words correctly but also become familiar with their use, and encourages research from a young age. When they have doubts about how to spell a word, they can look it up in the dictionary, which will help them to learn new words.
Hoy día es muy importante prestar atención a la lectura y escritura de nuestros hijos, ya que cada día son muchos los jóvenes que se dejan llevar por nuevos modelos en donde prefieren emplear solo imágenes o abreviaturas incorrectas en sus escritos, mensajes de textos, correos, entre otros, y que los están influenciando en gran medida. Por lo que es recomendable atender las fallas a tiempo y buscar formas de incentivarlos a mejorar la ortografía.
Nowadays it is very important to pay attention to the reading and writing of our children, since every day there are many young people who are carried away by new models where they prefer to use only images or incorrect abbreviations in their writings, text messages, emails, among others, and that are influencing them greatly. So it is advisable to address the failures in time and find ways to encourage them to improve their spelling.
