The News

I will start as I usually do with the prices. I will exclude $HBD this time to make the variations clearer. $HIVE and the 'legacy coin' took a bit of a dip a couple of weeks back, but have recovered a little now. They still mostly track each other despite the blue one having no real development. The Splinterlands coins are not doing much these days, but I still maintain a stake in them for some passive income.

The big news in computing today is the CrowdStrike outage that has affects lots of businesses. The issue was with an update to some Windows security software that took lots of systems offline. That has affected travel, banking and other systems. We do have to consider how robust blockchain apps can be. We have seen this one go down in the past due to updates failing, but not for a long time. I know the developers do a lot of testing now, but no software is perfect. With something like Hive people could lose control of their funds, so it is vital to minimise risk. We need the resources to pay people to do a good job on this. That can come from what witnesses get paid and through the proposals fund. You should look into how those work. You get to vote for both of these, so use your votes well.

• I got talking with @edent over on Mastodon and he made use of the account he has here for the first time in years. He is a smart guy who I have met a couple of times, but as with many he is sceptical of blockchains.
• @risingstargame is getting more features all the time. The latest is a way to set up an avatar for the charts page. It does not seem to affect your earnings, but people like fun things like that.
• @mintymile was one of those who responded to my India list with some interesting comments. They have been on Hive for a long while.
• I met the @coldbeetrootsoup guys at Hivefest in Amsterdam. They are involved with some cool projects to promote Hive.

I have nothing new for the Dog House this week, but I am interested to hear if people thing there are problems with Hive.

I get that it can be hard to maintain enthusiasm for something like Hive when it appears to be lacking progress and growth, but you can still make it fun and that is what keeps people on platforms that pay them nothing. Find your crowd here. That can be those from your part of the world or those who share your interests. If you are posting long-form or short-form (Dbuzz/Threads/Waves) then think about your audience. The best posts are those that trigger a discussion. Much as I love cats, there can be little to say about yet another cat picture. There is plenty going on in the news, so why not discuss that, or your favourite movies/music/comics/TV.
