It has been another interesting year on the blockchain. I passed my eighth anniversary here and I have seen a lot in that time. I know some people predicted that it was doomed, but we are still here and I have seen a few people return after a while away. I am not sure how many have joined in 2024, but we need to keep them engaged. The $HIVE price is not that different to a year ago. We have seen some spikes in activity recently. These may not last, but it could settle a little higher than before and it gets some attention.
Over the year I have grown my HP by almost 21,000. I did buy some, but most was earned. As your HP grows you can earn more from curation. I do have some HBD savings, but HP is my priority. The value of my account had dropped a fair bit at points, but it got a boost today. The peak value was back in late 2021 when my stake was much smaller and the price had gone crazy. It did not last too long and I would have had to power down to take advantage.
I am nerdy enough to keep a log of some of my stats here. I have gained over 200 followers and that may be less than previous years. What matters is whether they actually engage with me.
I find HiveBuzz useful to see where I stand. You can check your ranking on various categories. Some of mine are:
- 97th by reputation. As this goes up it takes longer to go up another point. I passed 79 this year and it may take most of next year to get to 80.
- 195th for posts. I post a fair bit, but not every day. In the early days I sometimes did more than one in a day, but I aim for quality over quantity now.
- 90th for comments. I have been a fairly active commenter and that may have helped me grow my following. It also helped that I have attended a lot of events, including Hivefest this year.
- 50th for replies. I do appreciate getting responses if they have some value and will vote accordingly. Lately I have had a lot of spammy responses by something who obviously feels unfairly treated, but they may have brought it on themselves. Hive offers freedom, but people want to protect it and will take action against what they see as abuse.
- 45th for votes received. I really do appreciate the support I get, but I know a lot of it is automated. I do not do any deals to get votes and accept that things could change at any time.
- 155th for HP. I have powered down before to pay for things, but not in a while. I want to keep building for now until I consider the price good enough to spend some.
- 169th for author HP. I am a long way off being one of the biggest earners here and rarely rank highly in trending. That is okay as I feel I do well.
- 253rd for curator HP. This will depend a lot on your stake, but others may be more strategic than me. I vote on what I like and it is mostly manual.
- 486th for followers. This is an interesting one as others have obviously worked hard to build a following. I do accept that most of mine are inactive. I hope that we can bring some of them back.
- 126th for reblogged. This feature is useful to get attention and I do not take it for granted. There are a couple of accounts who share all my posts, but I have no idea why. You really ought to be selective to add value.
I can see that I dropped in rank on some factors from this post last year. That is good if others are making progress. Back in 2020 my commenting rank was the same.
Hive is heaven for statistics nerds with several sites charting them. It is fairly easy to generate your own with some of the tools available. I think it can be helpful to track your progress even if you do not have an actual product to promote. I do my own
I would actually be quite happy to drop down the rankings if it means that a lot more people were using Hive. We are still pretty small when it comes to active users. I want to see lots more join up next year. Get your friends on board to share the benefits.
Hive five and happy new year!
