Book Review The Ascension Legacy The Shamed Ranger Book 1 by Gary Richardson

This post is my review of the book "The Shamed Ranger" in the series "The Ascension Legacy" by Gary Richardson.

The book consist of 316 pages which are broken down into 15 chapters. I read the book over the period of a week. I found the book to be an engaging and good read. The story is based in a world with humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, orcs and various other species that I typically find in fantasy books.

Introduction of Kirin

The first few pages are world building and describes some of the history an lore of Corsallis. It quickly focuses down to Kirin a young wood elf in the town Rishdel.

The story follows Kirin as he discovers the history of his family. This history ties into some of the legends and lore of the land. Kirin will soon be the age where he chooses the guild of study which he wishes to follow. His decision here will lead to meeting of new people and starting on a path toward what I assume is his destiny.

The Ascension Legacy

There is a mythical set of armor called "Ascension Armor" which has been lost and mostly forgotten over several centuries of time. The story portrays several groups searching for pieces of the Ascension Armor.

Story flow

The story builds around Kirin and his challenges and how he overcomes them. It has a parallel story which follows a group of gnomes and orcs which are hunting for a piece of the Ascension Armor. I read several chapters each night as Kirin faced obstacles and problems and in the end overcomes them.

Conclusion

By the end of the first book I have become familiar with many of the main players. How these players interact with each other will have to wait until the following books in the series.

I found the book to be an engaging read that let me escape from reality for awhile.

I would recommend this book for any who like to read stories about elves and humans overcoming odds and learning to deal with conflict. I look forward to the following books in the series. How Kirin with his set of comrades face a new set of challenges and search to learn about themselves.

I worked with the author Gary at a high tech firm a few years ago. I saw a write up in the local paper about the author and the couple of books that he has published. That led me to get a copy of this book.

Let me know if you have any questions about the book.

@listnerds brought me here. You should get Gary to autograph a book for you and also invite him to Hive!

Yes Gary signed a copy of his book for me and I have mentioned hive to him. Glad to see that listnerds is producing good results on this format of media.

It's been a while since I read a book like this and perhaps it's time I did so. Your post is timely, I've just posted an article called the 10 books that changed my life. I'd be interested in your thoughts.
I came here via ListNerds.
cheers

Your top 10 books are interesting but a bit dark for my liking. I have only read two or three of them. I don't like nightmares so I generally stay away from horror. I have bookmarked your article so I can come back to it later and see if I wish to read any of them. I prefer Sci-fi and fantasy which allows me to ignore the brutality of life. I also prefer underdogs(being different than everyone else) so I read less known authors.

I haven't really read any actual books in a while. If anything, I guess I might read some of those translated Asian web novels for the most part. I found this post using Listnerds.

I am glad you clicked through and read my post. I entered your card giveaway yesterday through Listnerds.

Thanks for promoting this via Listnerds sir!

I'm actually in the middle of Persepolis Rising by James S.A. Corey. It's book 7 in the Expanse series and I'm a huge sci-fi nerd LOL

I've never really gotten into fantasy stuff like the book you reviewed, and it's not that I don't like the genre, I'm actually a big fan...Just never gotten into anything other than the Tolkien stuff.

I actually enjoyed reading Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse Book 1) when it was offered up in prime reading. I read the first book in a lot of series. I have since started paying for Kindle unlimited and read a book or three per month. Lately I have been reading many LITRPG books which follow people through virtual environments/games. I am on book 10 The Eighth Realm: A LitRPG Fantasy series (The Ten Realms Book 10) by Michael Chatfield.

Yes I watch The Expanse on Amazon Prime. I never tied the two together until now. Thanks
