My Introduction Post To Hive Blog
ABOUT ME, SHARONRAPH
I am one of the few people who have two registered English names: Favour and Sharon. Sharon, my very first name, was given to me by my father. It soon was forgotten after my mother called me Favour. You see, at the time my mother named me, she had never heard Favour as a name anywhere, so did every one else. So, due to its uniqueness, Favour became popular and Sharon had to be relegated to the background. To save the dying name, I use it for my social media accounts and every other not-so-formal situation.
I also have a Bachelors degree certificate in English and Literary Studies to my name, majoring basically in English language. However, my flair for writing began during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. My B.A in English and Literary Studies is not entirely responsible for my knack for writing. Maybe my writing journey began when I did that beat-down version of Beauty and The Beast at 5 years old. It was soon truncated when my brother told me, “you can’t write that story because it has already been written”. The spirit was revived at 17, when I wrote some poems that were great to me for three whole years till I said maybe creative writing is really not my strong forte. I found my strength in academic writing, business writing, and content writing. Thanks to my sister. I can comfortably say that I have been a writer for three years and counting. I am, however, still exploring other aspects of writing, such as technical writing.
I have never really been one to settle in a particular geographical location for a really long time without taking short trips out every once in a while. I have lived most of my life in the South Eastern and South Southern parts of Nigeria and am already quite used to the calm in these parts. However, the desire to explore other places has always been in me. Needless to say that I am a traveller. Of the two most popular places in Nigeria- Lagos and Abuja- I naturally tilted to the calmer option, Abuja. Because as much as I love calm, I'll always want exposure and the urban life. Abuja embodies these two qualities. Abuja, the capital city, has presented a lot of opportunities and has successfully enticed me with her charms enough to make me decide to settle for now. It is in Abuja that I have met and made new acquaintances and friendships, including the one I have with @blacktarri, which has invariably led me here.
I was introduced to Hive by BlackTarri, whom destiny brought my way. I met Black during my Youth service year, one fateful CDS day. We talked a little about being corp members and exchanged numbers after we found out we were in the same CDS group. Ever since, she has been about my welfare. She practically held my hand all through the Hive registration process and making this post, my first. I’m grateful to her.
Basically, I am still figuring life out daily and with every experience, new or familiar. I am a strong believer in Jesus and His power. As a Christian, I believe I am not doing life alone and no matter how overwhelming these experiences are, I will not be consumed by them. Can I get an Amen? I look forward to every new day and take it as an opportunity to learn. After being a christian, two other things I am really proud to be are Igbo and a Woman. In subsequent articles, I will be unraveling the beauty of these two.
I enjoy being with friends and family a lot, reading, scrolling through reels on Instagram, dressing up, window-shopping, and buying new things. I love to see people genuinely happy and I love to laugh. I do not know how to swim for the life of me, but I own a ridiculous amount of swim wears. Although I cannot ride a bike, drive, or swim, I can whistle and I’m proud of that because that is one-up on Rihanna.
Writing here on Hive will be an enjoyable experience and I’m here to savour every moment of it. This medium will be a space to write on personal experiences, relatable topics, and my thoughts, generally. I would love to read everyone’s contributions and comments. It is good to be here.
Thank you everyone for having me here
