Completing my first Monthly Author challenge and #Januarystreak!

in #januarystreak3 years ago

I did it! Having challenged myself to write a Hive post every day in January for the #januarystreak, without much hope of success initially, I got across the finishing line yesterday. I must say there have been days this past month where I really didn’t feel like sitting down and writing, but I’ve grown increasingly stubborn over the years to finish the goals that I make, so here I am!

31/31 days of posting in January to complete the "Monthly Author" challenge on Hivebuzz

I've said many times that I'm a big fan of community initiatives and challenges with the purpose of increasing activity and engagement. So to the extent that I can, I like to participate and contribute.

This time, I feel some shoutouts are in place:

  • @dragosroua for starting it all, and generally being a great community member and, imo, underappreciated witness.
  • @michelmake, who I hadn't had too many encounters with previously, but who has been a frequent visitor in the comment section with some positive engagement.
  • @eroche same as the above. 🙂

And if more engagement with new users is not a successful outcome of a challenge like that, then I don't know what is. I encourage you all to check out their latest posts in the #januarystreak tag and consider giving them some love!

But of course, as the money-fixated-finance-guy that I am, I probably would not have persevered was is not for wanting to grind out those additional HIVE earnings. And beginning the year with a hustling streak is a great way to set oneself up for success.

Setting oneself up for success

Thanks to the hustle, I’m well ahead of where I had thought I would be in terms of Hive Power growth since the start of the new year. That’s why I prefer strategies and best practices rather than goals. Goals tend to make you satisfied and then stop before reaching your potential. For instance, I could have said that I wanted to grow my account by 500 or 1000 HP per month alongside the additional liquid power-up of 1000 pr month that I’ve pledged. But seeing as I’m leaving January with 2257 more Hive Power, and a lot more HBD, than I had at the start, having any of those goals may have seen me hustle less. Instead, I’ve had a strategy that I’ve stuck with to make the most out of every day, no matter what.

It ties well together with another life lesson I’ve had, that the time is always now. And it is only what you do now that matters. The past doesn’t exist, nor does the future, only the now. You can choose to do something now, or you can choose not to. But eventually, you will have to do something in whatever becomes a later present moment at that time. Don’t spend as much time making plans for the future as you do making plans for how to make the best of the present moment under different circumstances. Because when the future you’re planning for comes, you’ll still need to get it done, and that will be done in the present.

I’ve often mentioned how it takes a month to set a new habit. So perhaps I will end up posting more frequently than the twice per week that I promised myself in my strategy post. But right now, I feel like I just need a short break. ^^

What about you? Have you been more persistent in your posting recently?

Well done on the challenge! I think I missed two days out of the streak but had already been on a 90+ day one IIRC and work started again last month which wiped me out. Fog is clearing now though and find myself producing music again which is always fun, if it doesn't leave too much time to do much else!

Thanks for the shoutout and congrats on completing the challenge.

it takes a month to set a new habit

After spending the last month planning and plotting new posts i admit it does feel like a habit now.

Nicely done and now February lies ahead lol. Shortest month of the year and should be easy for someone with your talents. Staying consistent on here every day can be challenging at times but definitely worth the effort.

we must plan well and surely we will achieve our goals, congratulations for completing the #januarystreak I also participated but in some cases I forgot to put the label and in other cases I did not even publish directly because how do you say mental fatigue wreaks havoc now to relax and wait for a new challenge in the following months.

Thanks for the shoutout and for being a great community member too. We really came a long way since the ragequitting days of Steemit, innit?

Congratulations for finishing the streak, hopefully it will set you on an ascending path for the year. And if the remaining 11 months aren't that great, at least you'll always have January, nobody can take that away from you now :)

Thanks for the shoutout! I'm doing my best to be a more substantial part of this community and this is really nice to hear! Congrats on the streak too! I sure hope you keep posting regularly, I like the topics your pick and the style of writing :-)

Liked that part on the here and now btw. It's a good thing to realize once in w ahile I think.

Good job my man!

Nice to read that you managed to reach your goal. I must admit that I haven't read all your posts... apologies for this.

On my side, I am somehow persistent since early December, but at the lower level than yours (one post in English per week and one in French). I won't be able to write more. There are only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week ;)

Nicely done! Congrats!

Congratulations @fredrikaa! You received a personal badge!

You powered-up at least 10 HIVE on Hive Power Up Day! This entitles you to a level 1 badge.

Well, let's hope that the break lasts till tomorrow, and you are back on track. Remember the power of the habit.

It ties well together with another life lesson I’ve had, that the time is always now. And it is only what you do now that matters. The past doesn’t exist, nor does the future, only the now. You can choose to do something now, or you can choose not to.

Wise words, focus on the present. Focus..
