This Week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge invited us to reflect back on 6 Epic Years of Splinterlands, specifically looking at our journeys into and through the ecosystem to this present day...
This is quite a nice counter to the salty Discord, with people moaning about their magic internet assets going down in value, best avoid that sort of toxic environment.
Discovery of Splinterlands and Duration of Participation....
I was in Discord chat when I first heard Aggy (remember him?) say 'I wanna make a game' and probably around 6 months later the rather (with hindsight) unfortunately named SteemMonsters was born.
I didn't go too hard at first with the Alpha packs, only bought a few, but I then bought around $200 worth of Betas and that's when I started battling, probably around the time of HiveFest 3 in Krakow in late 2018.
So I've been here for most of the journey, with probably about 5.5 years being active.
The Birth of Hive: Buying Unatmed
What really helped my battling game in the early days was spending a fair amount of that old SHIT COIN which came before Hive on Untamed cards, including these bad-boy legendary summoners:
I managed to stack quite a few maxed legendary and epics, and was regularly getting into Champions 1 even without maxed cards, how times have changed!
I also bought a few maxed Betas, I remember one of the whales was rage quitting and selling off cards cheaply (sound familiar?) so I took advantage!
I was defo battling then, see this post, with lineups like this...
The SPS Air Drop
I wrote about the SPS airdrop here.
I think I had about 1M SPT and probably a similar amount of DEC, and I'm not sure what else, but I managed to accumulate around 3-400k SPS by the end of drop.
I did sell SOME DEC when it was 10* the value it is now, thankfully, and some SPS too, again when it was, what 20-30* the value?
In retrospect NOT selling more SPS and DEC at the time was a mistake, but there you go!
$6K on Chaos Legion
Thankfully all of this $6K came from jiggling around other SL assets, so the fact that this Vest is now worth probably nearer £1K doesn't matter so much!
This was enough to create a maxed dec, there were too many packs printed, but there you go!
I did enjoy some battling with Chaos, and they are still useable!
Land
I bought a tract too, this was a much better Vest than Chaos Legion, and in fact I bought a fair few gold cards to populate my land. I also pulled a castle when it finally went live!
I've got around 2.5M DEC and, let's... see almost 2M PP split between grain, SPS and Research
Splinterlands going forwards... focussing on LAND
I don't battle much these days, the latest set of packs were too much for me, I put all my resources into LAND! I bought gold chaos cards, NOT Rebellion.
Recently I've pulled some resources from Research towards SPS, I am rank 15 in my region, nowhere near enough to earn me any benefits from research. I am thinking you know how it is in SL:
If you're NOT in the top 10 you get a CHANCE of getting something. So I'm gradually hedging out of Research and into liquid SPS.
Still worth a Vest...?
There are very few asset classes in crypto which allow you to play a game and skim a profit, all for VERY LOW FEES.
Personally I'd recommend a Vest in the game. And if yer gonna start out, focus on building ONE or TWO decent splinters, and VEST in the best legendary summoners and monsters first!
That's what I did!
