There are two very important titles I associate with my being that defines how I see myself and interact with the world. The first is the title husband and the second is father. These two things provide me with the unique opportunity to love and cherish something and someone more than I do myself, and I would say this happens to be one of the primary craving of the human soul.
Now, I just don't want to be a husband or a father. I want to be a good father and husband, and that has been defined for me by society and my very many experiences, which have informed my idea of what a good father/husband is, and this much I must uphold.
Unfortunately, life isn't straightforward. My idea or identity will be challenged in so many ways, and some times they don't make sense. Sometimes I get the good husband/father badge, other times I don't even want it because it comes at a high cost, but if I am not a good husband/father what am I?
We all try to make sense of the world through ideas and titles, and without them live losses it meaning. So it understandably why people uphold certain idea and identity. It is more emotional than logically, hence people do the most irrational things for their title.
I am of the opinion that no title or idea should be more important than the self. There should at least be some form of equibrium between the title and the self. This is the part requires some brain cells; this is the part question our motives. This allows for change when needed and mitigates being brainwashed.
The world today is torn via ideologies, and this post is my appeal to people to hold humanity far above ideologies. Ideas are mere stories/narratives concocted by man. They change with the passing of time. If there is anything worth holding on to it is certainly ourselves and the tangible things around us.
