USG funded media used to actually produce journalism. This Frontline report on covert Israeli arms dealers and military advisers in Nicaragua participating in the Iran/Contra Affair in which Nicaraguan rebels were armed, cocaine was smuggled into the USA and sold as crack by drug gangs, and the drug money paid for weapons and training for the Contras in Nicaragua (and arms sold to Iran, but through Israel acting as a cutout), is classical investigative reporting, contrary to the slavish posture of NPR today, that would call the sky red if the USG told them to.
I think many people that didn't live through the 1980s would be astounded to see what USG funded media used to be, and to learn the history of the Iran/Contra terrorist war in Nicaragua. This was what freedom of speech, funded by your tax dollars, used to look like. This is what boomers think NPR is today, when it tells them what the CIA and MI6 wants them to think. They don't understand they've been betrayed, that freedom of speech no longer exists, and that they're being indoctrinated by the Communists that the USG used to fight against.
Of course, Israel's covert terrorist actions weren't limited to Nicaragua, and you'll find many more places named here that were disrupted then that suffer the consequences today. My heart breaks for the freedom that used to exist, in an America that used to exist, but has been crushed into dust and blown away in the wind. I feel like I have been gutted watching this reminder of what we used to have.
I know we need it back. We cannot be subjugated to the Communists. Hive was supposed to support freedom of speech. This is the role it was to fill. Let's make speech free again. Let freedom ring.
