Youtool is Dead to me

in #life5 months ago

Today I went to watch a link that only had a youtool source. As a rule I watch alternative sources when available, and rarely watch youtool. As a Brave user, I have not seen an ad on youtool since ~2020 I think. However, today all I got was an ad, and the video I went to watch didn't even come up. I was confused, and thought I'd somehow messed up the link, so tried again, and got a different ad, but again, no actual content.

Seems like Goolag found a way to confound Brave at last, and now there isn't a point to even trying to view a link on youtool, since I only get an ad, and not whatever was linked. From now on I will not click on links to youtool. I will only even attempt to view content on other platforms, preferably Odysee. I hope this complete cessation of youtool's provision of content is ubiquitous, and no one is able to view anything but advertising on youtool, so that the platform dies overnight and never again has any ability to censor and indoctrinate humanity.

Little would please me more than the complete and instant death of Goolag, starting with youtool.

Thanks!

For real man it's frustrating to deal with ads instead of content. I've also had issues with platforms that prioritize ads over what I want to see. That's why I prefer to just stick with Hive

So far I haven't run into ads here. Promotions, sure, but not ads.

Thanks!

Absolutely big bro that's why I love this platform.... Thanks so much for your blog bro

That is crazy you couldn't see the video! We have a Rumble account for our neighborhood videos. It's crazy how many alternative sites there are, but pretty much everyone uses Yt.

If these kinds of shenanigans continue, folks will be using those alternatives exclusively.

Thanks!

aye, the inevitable progression of insane tyranny tool development

It never does end. The snake nibbles first at our toes, but is aiming at our head from the get go, and unless we wriggle out of it's grasp, it will eat us entirely.

Thanks!

all the more i credible how stubborn people can cling to their fairytale indoctrination.
it never ceases to amaze me.

blessings dude

I've been trying to get away from them as well and have had mixed results but I persist!

bractice makes berfect.

Thanks!

My first and best step was ditching Gulag search, then GMAIL. Then it was YT, which 99.9% of the time I refuse to visit. Eventually it will be nice to try to stay away from apps and things that utilize their ad trackers but that's a much more difficult thing to do on phones.

I have disabled my phones so that they can only make phone calls and text. I can't even check the weather. Infuriates my kids, my clients (I can't send them pics of problems that need fixing, or the fixes I make, for example), and everyone I know.

Great success!

Thanks!

That's good, it's funny that we desire to go backwards in tech because of the insidious nature of the whole thing. I wouldn't entirely mind to have a phone that was the old flip phones, texts and calls only. Pictures I do have to have but could just carry around my other phone SIM-free or even just a point and shoot digital camera.

It's truly a mockery of tech advance that the utility of our devices is perverted into surveillance and tracking that turns them into curses instead of blessings. OSH can't mature soon enough.

I've been using privacy redirect for several years, it takes utub/twitter/instagram/google maps/etc links and blocks them from loading.
It redirects utub links to invidious instances, I mostly use yewtu.be, but they have been on the fritz and I've been using others.
In settings you can check the proxy box and the instance will proxy the video for you.
I only use the instances that don't require I turn on scripts in brave.

Twitter broke shortly after x took over, something about guest accounts going away.

In any case, you can take the watch link from a utub link, substitute yewtu.be and viola no ads, no tracking that you watched the video for utub.
The invidious instance will know, but perfection is not an option.

I tried to use invidious, but didn't know I could just change URLs to watch videos not offered by the channel owners.

Thanks!

If it's something that's worth the bother, there are any number of sites that will allow you to load the link and spit out the audio or video file to download for your viewing/listening pleasure. I don't have a toob account but if it's something that i really feel is worth the effort, that's my route.

Honestly, I have detested Youtool for a long time. I feel like a battered spouse that has finally got up the courage to move on and leave my abuser. I like Odysee. I like the alternatives much better than Youtool. They have much better user policies. They aren't usually stealing my data, hoarding it, and selling it to malicious actors.

Thanks!

I've noted the breaking of many browsers / extensions, over the last few months - in certain ways - lead mostly by Google I guess - Alot of times, Firefox is unstable - Brave has a lot of problems as well. As far as Youtube - its funny really. They have pushed all the views to the "safe channels" and all the other channels have died out. So they killed the crowd for the sake of a laywer - About the breaking of extensions on Brave (or Brave itself), that has happened before - most times in a week they have found away around it. Hopefully they do that this time - but who knows. The breaking of the browser seems to be region specific though - I noted that last time they were doing it to New Zealand users, but not in order regions. It does not surprise me, NZ is usually the test case -
Thanks!

Ya'll are a small enough population to provide good tests. I try to follow you on the platforms I use, such as here, Odysee, and Substack. I'm glad you have multiple ways to reach your content, because I'm sure more of them are going down.

Thanks!

I download for ThemTube, because i hate them so much. So, waste their bandwidth.

Often i use yt-dlp and download from the commandline.

However, this aggressive behavior from ThemTube will not get higher ad views, it will drive people away.

Yes, it will drive people away.

Thanks!

Congratulations on becoming a dolphin. 10,000,000 vests!
