First day of my holiday - Norwich

in #mobilephotographylast year

Although I retrieved some overtime on Friday, today is the first official day of my holidays. For once, we actually had a plan!

My sister also took the day off work and she gave us a run down of the local public transport system. I infrequently use trains, I use buses even less often! My wife, two daughters and I met my sister on the bus that stops a few minutes walk from the house. My first observation was what great value it is - although a bit of a faff. We needed to get a bus into Great Yarmouth and then change for Norwich. We got a ticket that would allow us on any bus on the major routes for £14.

It took 30 - 40 minutes longer than it would to drive but the buses were clean and comfy and we didn't have the hassle (or expense) of trying to park. I'll certainly be using their services again!

On arrival we walked in the opposite direction to town as my sister took us to an Asian supermarket right next to the bus station. It was fantastic and I could have spent all day in there if it weren't for those pesky kids! Thankfully they were there to save me from myself as I could have quite easily have spent lots of money ... that I don't have.

The kids picked up a few bits. The eldest daughter focused on some interesting sweets whilst my youngest picked some pork crunch and dried banana snacks.

After so much time looking at food, it was time to go find some as it was lunchtime. Norwich market has a great selection of places to eat (as does Norwich in general). I knew what I was having before we arrived. Coral Bay, a Caribbean place used to have a stall just up the road but it closed down. I've had a craving for a while so the youngest and I shared a large curried goat with sides. They were kind enough to split the portion, 2 thirds for me and a third for youngest. It was delicious!

Then it was time to have a poke about some shops. I'm not a big shopper but there was little desire to go and have a look around the older parts of the city. I shall go back and do that on my own one day. I had packed my camera just in case but it didn't see any use. I did however take a few snaps with my phone.

We got to see a little bit of Norwich castle.

I'm not sure how old these buildings are, but they look oldish!

I can't wait to go exploring there again but next time I'll aim for it to be a solo journey!

I'm not sure I've been there, but it's not too far really. Would it be worth a day out?

I don't use buses much, but aren't the prices capped now?

I think so. There's plenty to see with the castle and cathedral. There're plenty of independent shops down lots of old cobbled streets. I've not yet discovered the oldest parts, but I understand they're lovely.
