THE IMPACT OF CONSISTENT LITTLE STEPS.

in #motivational2 years ago
We all have heard the popular quote that says "Little drops of water can make a mighty ocean". Although none of us has stayed long enough to actually see such situation practicalized in real life, but we all have atleast experienced what happened when keep a bucket under a loose faucet overnight. The situation is that, although we might have felt that the small drops that drips from the faucet might be insignificant, but with time, that insignificant effect cumulates into something very significant, such that we wake up with the morning to find out that the bucket is not only filled with water, it's also over flowing.

This experience is philosophical, and when we take a deep thought on the reason why something insignificant now ended up to become something of great importance, we can point out three attributes consistent with similar situation. The first attribute is consistency, the second one is a means that enables the significant effort to accumulate (which in the case above is the bucket), while the third attribute is the time it took.

When it comes to things in life involving little steps, that finally amounts to something, you will definitely find these attributes in them. Let's take a look at these attributes one after the other:

1. Consistency:

For little steps to amount to something, it must be consistent. Once in a while kind of little steps won't effect anything. Once in a year effects cannot even be effective. But when little steps are taken in a consistent manner, the result of it is certain.

If you take a look at the sorroundings around the house you live in, you will observe that in those areas where the rain from the roof's rain-gutter falls to the floor, you will observe the impact water has made on the floor. On normal circumstances, water cannot penetrate cement, tiles, or interlock, but through consistency, it can penetrate even the hardest stone on earth.

A lot of persons always feel that their little contributions is not worth it, because they don't see immediate result. They soon get tired of everything and in most cases give up. And in the process, they lose even the little amount they already accumulated from the little progress they have made. But if we can learn how to keep our eyes on the price, knowing that as long as we keep taking these steps, no matter how insignificant, we will get to our final results, that on its own is already an accomplishment.

2. Tracking your Progress:-

Taking few steps consistently alone, is not an assurance that you will achieve your goals. If for instance, you want to move from here to a certain far location, if you know the way to that place and through out the journey you keep tracking your progress to ensure that you are in line, you will surely get there. But if on the other hand, you move slow and steady, taking little steps, but you deviate from the right path, at the end of the day, you will realize that all the efforts you have made has been invain.

Still using the earlier illustration about the dripping faucet; If you fail to keep a bucket under it at night, you should not expect to have a bucket full of water in the morning. This is because, all the water dripping from the tap would have wasted.

We must learn how to track our effort. Even while being consistent, we should ensure that our efforts are effectively accumulating, and we don't lose any progress.

3. Time:

The important and last part is to give your efforts time to mature. This is where a lot of persons miss it. Due to the fact that the results for their efforts doesn't come immediately, they soon get tired and quit along the way. We should learn about patience from nature.

Everything in nature including plants grow little by little. The time for maturity is always dependent on the quality of the plant. For instance, plants that remains and keep yielding fruit forever grows little by little and takes years to mature. Others like maize, grow gradually but are ready for harvest in a little above six months.

A man who wants to achieve a thing should ensure that he first sits down and calculate what it will take to achieve his goals. This will help him to be patient while awaiting the results of his efforts as he consistently make progress.
