Behind the Song 'Showman'
Hey guys,
So last Year I released the first song 'SHOWMAN' out of my upcoming Debut Album.
I would like to take you through the journey behind the song.
How it all started...
Basically the concept was already created back in 2015, when I was on a trip in Chicago. My sister has just started with pole dance and I was inspired by the rough and smokey atmosphere of Chicago's Blues Clubs whilst I still had those smooth and elegant moves of pole dancing in my hand.
So the musical concept was actually supposed to be a Pole Dance song: sexy, seductive and fiery.
Then when I moved to London, the actual story happened.
The story...
I went to a London Music Bar and I met this someone, who was a proper Showman: Good looking, charming and every woman was into him.
And then he met me and we were like fire and flame.
I knew that he was a teaser, so I never knew if he'd say the truth.
But you know how it is, the dangerous things are the one that are the most fun to play with - until you burn yourself!
There was a very strong connection between us, although we both knew, that this could lead to an explosion. He even once said, that he was afraid of I would hurt him. It's weird how some people can get out the most toxic and inflammable side within us.
The Songwriting & Music Production Process...
Now that you know the story I would like also to take you through the music creation journey.
So I took my Pole Dance song and changed it into 'SHOWMAN'.
In that time I was still studying a Songwriting course at ACM / Metropolis, so thankfully I had great support on the songwriting side.
Metropolis Studios is the largest independent recording studio in Europe, an inspiring environment to be in.
The Song has some very interesting chord progressions and I've always loved to unfollow the Standard.
So after the song was written, we brought a band to the studio to make an arrangement.
Here is the first Live Version of Showman we ever did at Metropolis Studios in 2018:
Showman is also the second "oldest" Song on the album and was actually supposed to be on my Debut EP 'Secret Love'.
The first production we had however, was okay, but too far away from where I wanted it to be, which is why I postponed the song.
Here is also a Never- Shown Demo Version of the first production, that I did by myself:
FIRST DEMO VERSION 'Don't Trust the Showman'
I wanted a James Bond-y Vibe and I loved the idea of strings and lots of harmonies. But still I missed some fire and power in it.
So when I moved back to Germany in 2019, I met my current producer, Kevin Nietsch. He comes from Hip Hop Music, but I've love the way he produces vocals. Plus I always wanted it to have Organic Roots with Modern Beats.
Therefore I asked Kevin if he would like to produce a song together. For him it was a challenge, too, cause he has never done Blues or Rock before.
It was an experiment and after a few trials, he hit my taste.
He added James Bond, Rock, Atmosphere, Danger, Fire, Sex, Passion – everything the song needed.
Showman ended up being the first song finished for the album, it was also the first cooperation ever between and Kevin and myself. It is the first Release of my upcoming Debut Album and it will also be the opening song on the Album.
The long Journey comes to an end...
SHOWMAN therefore has a very special meaning to me.
Some songs you write quickly, but as you can see, this song has experienced a long journey to be where it is today.
We've created our very own genre with it.
With this song I want to give you a few messages:
As Fun as it seems to be, don't play with fire. It burns! I can tell you this from experience.
A Showman you shouldn't trust (YEP, that's the Hook)
Take your time till the creation of your arts feels right
Make it your own!
Finally, here is the FINAL version, and I am very excited to read your opinions in the comments.
So tell me...have you been burnt?
