Three Tune Tuesday: Memories of Back in the Day

in #musiclast month

Tuesday again, so time for another Three Tune Tuesday, an initiative by @ablaze.

This past week I've been listening to a lot of techno, trance, and some hardcore as well.
I'm Dutch, so it's in my blood haha.
I've been part of this group on Facebook called 'We raved in the 90's' and it's been fun there to be honest. A few hundred people with the same taste for music as me. Can't go wrong with that.
I love, and listen to, many different music styles, but the ones that will always get me going and out of any kind of dip or blues, is house music. Always.
So here we go, my choices for this week's Three Tune Tuesday.

Jam & Spoon's Remix of The Age of Love

I believe this is the all time favorite of many of the ravers from back in the day.
The original was written in 1990 by Bruno Sanchioni and Giuseppe Chierchia (his artist name Pino D'Angiò), who sadly passed away earlier this year, RIP. However, the tune didn't really hit off until Jam & Spoon brought out the remix in 1992. I was still brand new to the dance scene at the time, maybe just a year or two in, so this one strikes a chord whenever I hear it.
Aside from this, I've been a great fan of Jam & Spoon for as long as I can remember, as you can probably tell with this one and the next tune.
But let's do this one first!

Jam & Spoon: Odyssey to Anyoona

This next one is a bit of a long one, but back in the day, it would almost every time be played in its entirety. Nobody minded that because it's an absolute gem of a tune.
I'm trying not to complain about the DJ's these days, but I'll say one thing about them. I was listening to a good number of DJs at this year's Tomorrowland, and most of them play a tune for a few seconds and then move to the next, as if it's a competition of how many tunes to cram into one hour...It's a shame, because a lot of those tunes deserve to be heard, not skipped half-way through.
Only the older DJs are still playing like back in the day, so that's why I love listening to those the most. But I won't keep this diamond in the rough from you any longer.

I can listen to the two above over and over and over again and never get bored.
It brings me back to a time that changed my life forever. It changed me to the core as well.
Before this time, I was barely living as a young adult, because I had social anxiety like no other.
This period of my life brought out the best, and sometimes the worst, in me. In fact, it brought it all out, and it was life changing, almost spiritual. Actually, it was spiritual.
I made good friends in that time, and those people are mostly still my friends now.
Some years ago, around 2016 I believe, I traveled from Ireland back to the Netherlands for a reunion of the nightclub my friends and I used to frequent back in the 90's, and it was like nothing had changed. We only got a bit older. Good times!

Massive Attack: Unfinished Sympathy

This last tune isn't really a house tune, or techno or the likes, but it's very well-known in the scene, and most could always appreciate it. It's a classic, and of course, Massive Attack made quite the name for themselves. They did a concert in my hometown this past summer, and that was one of a few times I actually wished I was there. It would have been great to experience that with my eldest daughter especially. She missed it too, unfortunately. But hey, we'll always have this tune to listen to. I like a lot of Massive Attack tunes, but this is my all time favorite.

I hope you enjoyed listening to these as much as I do every time I hear them.
I'm going to be listening to lots more of the sort these coming days, or weeks, as it's the music I love the most. There was a time when I couldn't listen to anything else. On the way back from a party or club, if someone dared to change the channel or CD on my car radio, I'd make sure they'd undo their 'mistake' quickly hehe. There was only one rule in my car and in my house: My music or you could get yourself home. 🤣 Now that I have kids, I barely ever get to listen to my music, so when I do, I enjoy it to the fullest. ✌️
