The end of the year is a time for reflection. We really should think about what we achieved over the last twelve month to appreciate that time has passed. The music we listen to is our personal soundtrack. I know a lot of people look forward to their Spotify Wrapped stats. I do use that platform a fair bit. I like the discovery and releases playlists to add variety to my listening. I also listen from my own collection plus a fair bit on Youtube.
I have been logging my listening for over 20 years via last.fm (previously called Audioscrobbler). I have a browser extension that can track online listens and the music player I use (Rhythmbox) has it built in.
So for #ThreeTuneTuesday I will feature some songs I listened to the most this year. It actually seems that I did not listen too many times to any particular song, but there will have been a few thousand plays overall.
I am not really one who pays attention to the charts these days and I can be blissfully unaware of some big hits. I think I first heard this one when someone performed it at an open mic. I do really like the original by Olivia Rodrigo. She is a great performer for one so young. I have also heard @purplesinger perform it. The song has much the same chord structure as Creep by Radiohead.
There were a lot of songs with the same number of plays, so I will pick some favourites. I often listen to whole albums, so all the tracks get played the same number of times.
As I have been playing jazz drums with some friends I have been listening to a fair bit of jazz. This one by Miles Davis is an old favourite and I have had the album Kind of Blue for many years.
One of my favourite bands is Frost* who I have seen live a few times. Their music can be complex, but I find it very listenable. It ought to appeal to fans of bands like Dream Theater, but may have more humour. This is from their new album.
I went to a few gigs this year including Lulu, Toyah and Robert Fripp, The Fierce and the Dead and Foo Fighters. I will be seeing Steven Wilson live again in 2025, but do not have much else booked up.
I played a few gigs myself too, including a fairly big local festival. There may be more of that to come.
I hope your 2025 rocks!
