Introduction
@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do! It is nice to sit down on a Tuesday morning and listen to some tunes and I usually have them on all morning.
Our picks
This week we are all about the wonderful music of Dizzy Gillespie. It is tough being a parent and doing all the things a parent needs to do. However there are some joys and one of my joys of being a parent is that my son constantly introduces me to new music.
Dizzy Gilespie is a name to reckon with in the jazz world, the American Trumpet player, writer and leader is a name most have heard of but not necessarily listened to. The more I am listening to him the more I realise just how good he was. Not just his trumpet playing but also the way he leads and arranges his band, sublime jazzness at all levels.....
Song 1
This was one of the first songs I heard of his recently. My son played it on the way back from his band practice as he had been playing. It definitely caught my attention the opening groove of bass and congo and then all the brass just had me going. No midi or electronics here just all pure vibes and this has got them in abundance.
Song 2
This second song a Night in Tunisia I love as the melody and the chords work for me. This is an interesting version of it with a light touch except check the trumpet solo at 1.43.....mental playing. If you have ever played trumpet then you will know how challenging what he plays is. Also in this version there is a sense of time that is ignored, at over 6 minutes they are not there to just play the song, they are there to fully immerse themselves in the music and enjoy the ride....its all about the journey not the destination.
Song 3
Now my last choice is a fun song with all the energy of a big band. Check out the opening it tells you everything. So much fun this one and great for moving too, you could dance or just do some work round the house, this song is going to work for you. of course the brass arrangements are sublime but the drums and percussion are also worth a good listnen.
We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices! If you think we are missing a great song then let us know.
Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!
