This was last night on the mountain opposite to my home, where I saw this fire. At first I was scared when I initially started seeing the smoking coming up and then gradually the fire. I asked some village people around what was happening and they told me that these were the tribal people doing it, now that monsoon is over and all the grass on the mountain has become dry, they are burning off the dried grass to clear their walking path.
That is ok, because I understand that these tribal people are living up there and the dried grass must be a problem for them, especially when they want to navigate through the path. But the sad part is that there are many trees also and with the grass getting burned up and the fire was big I am sure the trees must be also getting impacted. The problem is no one stops them or tell them anything. These people have been living here since years and have their homes up here, no police or government official will go up there to take any measures.
The village people told me that once the fire they set became so wild and big that they had to call the fire brigade which again was a big challenge on this path. Though they came they could not do anything, because it was impossible for them to reach up there. This has been going on for a long time and they refuse to listen to anyone. In the bargain a lot of trees are getting destroyed, which is such a pity.
When it started it was a small area but then in sometime it spread out till a long way. I had only heard about forest fires and this is the first time I am actually seeing it, I was feeling scary and angry at the same time.
It's very difficult to educate these tribal people, no matter how much you tell them, in the end they will only do what they want to. The only way is that the government gets strict with them, but that also I am not sure how much it will work. Having an indigenous life around is good but not when these people are bringing harm to the nature.
In all of this chaos, the sight of the moon brought a smile on my face.
