Man Faces Death Threats for Praising His Haitian Workers
For Jamie McGregor, a businessman in Springfield, Ohio, speaking favorably about the Haitian immigrants he employs has come to this: death threats, a lockdown at his company and posters around town branding him a traitor for hiring immigrants.
To defend himself and his family, Mr. McGregor has had to violate his own vow to never own a gun.
“I have struggled with the fact that now we’re going to have firearms in our house — like, what the hell?” said Mr. McGregor, who runs McGregor Metal, which makes parts for cars, trucks and tractors.
“And now we’re taking classes, we’re going to shooting ranges, we’re being fitted for handguns,” he said on a recent day, pulling up a photo of his 14-year-old daughter clutching a Glock.
Walz and Vance’s Medical Records Viewed Illicitly
A criminal investigation is under way after staff at the US Department of Veterans Affairs illicitly accessed the medical records of Tim Walz and JD Vance, the Democratic and Republican vice-presidential nominees.
At least a dozen employees – including one doctor and one contractor – at the department’s healthcare body, the Veterans Health Administration, are believed to have improperly viewed the files.
Ted Cruz Suddenly Insists He’s Bipartisan
Facing a tight re-election race, hardline Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is now claiming that he’s a bipartisan champion of reaching across the aisle.
Said Cruz: “What is new is not that I’m passing bipartisan legislation that helps produce jobs in Texas. I’ve been doing that since the day I arrived in the Senate. What is new is we’re finally getting the press to report on it.”
Trump Wants to Lock Up Kamala Harris Now
Obviously, none of the particulars of these allegations — in Harris’s case, Trump hasn’t even managed to manufacture a pretextual criminal allegation — matter to Trump in the slightest. His view of the law is fully relativist. Actions taken on Trump’s behalf are by inherently legal, and actions taken against him are inherently illegal.
That is why Trump continuously brands his political opponents as criminals. In addition to all three of his Democratic campaign opponents, Trump has called for criminal charges to be brought against a long list of targets.
Biden May Bring Back Congress for Hurricane Relief Funds
President Joe Biden said he may request that Congress come back into session this month to pass a supplemental spending bill to help the storm-ravaged Southeast.
Biden said he expects to travel to North Carolina Wednesday or Thursday, as long as it doesn’t interfere with emergency response efforts.
Trump Ranted And Raved About Immigration, ‘The Purge,’ Movie Casting At a Rally In Pennsylvania
We are once again noting that the former president sounds objectively insane.
As Trump himself observed, he’s been on a particularly bleak and disturbing tear, even by his own standards. I wrote late last year about how Americans have become understandably desensitized to his most extreme rhetoric, at the same time that he has taken a darker tone. Now he’s well past that level with barely a month to go before the election.
Picking the lowlight of the past few days isn’t easy, but it’s probably Trump’s suggestion that one hour of widespread, extrajudicial violence by the police would be an effective method of crime control. Perhaps that sounds like a caricature; if anything, trying to convey Trump’s ideas in normal language risks toning them down.
Iran Preparing Missile Attack on Israel
The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel.
Trump Falsely Says Biden Was Not Reachable
Donald Trump falsely claimed that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp hasn’t been able to reach President Joe Biden to discuss Hurricane Helene’s impacts on his state.
Said Trump: “He has been calling the president, but has not been able to get him.”
Yet earlier in the day Kemp, a Republican, said that he initially missed Biden’s call but that he called back and that the two were able to connect Sunday evening.
Said Biden: “He’s lying, and the governor told him he was lying. I don’t know why he does this. And the reason I get so angry about — I don’t care about what he says about me, I care what he what he communicates to people that are in need, implies that we’re not doing everything possible. We are.”
