If you've been on crypto twitter lately then you've more than likely you have seen a lot of these over the past couple of days.

If you don't know what Phantom is,
Phantom, a popular cryptocurrency wallet primarily associated with the Solana blockchain, has been at the center of all these discussions due to rumors suggesting an upcoming token airdrop.

Everybody follow everybody. The phantom wallet airdrop is closing in a few days and you need at least 100 followers to take part.

Every post on twitter is follow for follow.

The hype is real and people are scrambling for what could be the biggest airdrop of 2025 in the first few days.

The prospect of an airdrop was seen as a way for Phantom to reward its early adopters and further incentivize its use across various DeFi applications and NFT marketplaces.

You could sense the excitement as phantom have created a great product and have a lot of users. They did add a new feature lately to claim usernames similar to Hive keychain so other chains are catching up.

FAKE NEWS

From the official Phantom twitter account.

We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for following users on Phantom!
It's a huge step for us toward making crypto more personal and user-friendly. By simplifying how you share and discover with friends, we aim to dramatically improve how users find new tokens and apps.
We've seen some speculation about an airdrop tied to this feature, so to clarify: we do not have any plans to launch a token. But we're incredibly excited about social discovery on Phantom and are actively working on ways to make it something everyone loves.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for helping us make crypto more fun, social, and accessible for everyone.

It just goes to show once more how much of crypto is still driven by hype and greed. Just the hint of an airdrop from an established brand was enough to drive crypto and crypto twitter into overdrive.

It's nothing to do with creating good products.
Nothing to do with utility.
Nothing to do with development.

But one sniff of free money and the whole sphere jumps into the product. If you tried to get them all onto a real product with slow but guaranteed gains like inleo there is no interest.

It has to be big money and has to be fast.

The other side is that not every product in crypto has to have a token attached. If it doesn't add value to the product or utility then why does it need a token??

Does hive keychain need a token?? No.

It's a product that enables us to use the eco-system but tying a token into the wallet makes no sense as opposed to inleo that the token has multiple uses and captures value for the project.

Too many crypto users want a token for everything but 98% of tokens have died off since inception. Only about 2% still have any use case or value....
