I am an avid mushroom picker and I know a lot about mushrooms I can distinguish an edible mushroom from an inedible and poisonous mushroom, but there are mushrooms among the edible mushrooms that I have never collected and you can see one of these mushrooms in these photographs.
This fungus is called Flammulina velutipes and can be found growing on stumps and trees in late autumn and winter.
It's hard to tell what's stopping me, maybe its jellyfish-like translucent flesh lol.
Perhaps if I was guided by the smell of the mushroom, and not by its appearance I would treat it differently but there is something repulsive in its appearance.
I am more than sure that oyster lovers will disagree with me but I do not eat oysters I prefer food cooked on fire.
Perhaps one day I will take the plunge in trying to see how this mushroom performs in different dishes but for now, my caution prevails over my knowledge that this mushroom tastes great and can be fried, cook and marinate.
Zoom in on a photo for a closer view.
More to come!
Enjoy viewing the photos and reading the article!
Have a blessed day!
