Being Nimble With My Plans

in #pob10 months ago

The first work week of 2024 was a beast filled with meetings and meetings and meetings and meetings. At the end of each day I felt mentally and physically exhausted. Which meant none of my big plans from my strategic calendar happened. NONE!

So what does this mean? Should I take my plans and chunk them out the window?

No.

But what it does mean is that I'll need to revise my plans drastically.

How?

Well, with a heavier than expected workload, I'll need to shift my personal projects to the weekends. Like today, Saturday.

I am easing into the day with some relaxing time with my family and of course here on Hive. However, I have spent some time looking at my strategic calendar and thinking through how this less ambitious plan will still allow me to accomplish my goals.

Has 2024 thrown your plans out the window, too? If so, please know you're not alone and that this just means we have to be nimble and fluid with our plans. I'm going to be like a speed boat, fast and quick to adjust course.

Boulders vs Rocks

I talked about developing my strategic plan in these posts:

  1. Calendars, Post-It Notes & Thumbtacks, Oh My!
  2. Coffee & Calendars
  3. Accountability = Staying Focused

The goal of the strategic plan is to ensure that the important things in my life aka boulders are accomplished. What this first week taught me is that what I thought we boulders were actually rocks which were easily swept away in the river of my life. This was more than a little frustrating to be only days into the new year and find myself in this position.

BUT, as I was staring at my strategic calendar what I realized was that what did not get swept away was something I had set for today. What is that? The Creator Accelerator podcast as a companion to my newsletter which is also a multi-day virtual event, and a program I developed last year.

SIDE NOTE: I saw this post earlier this week and it has been running around in my head.

A few personal wishes for podcasting in 2024.

It's a lil marketing-oriented, but everyone ought to be, so it's for you, too ;)

I truly believe the best is yet to come. And I'm excited for it! pic.twitter.com/dZTgQ2ECae

Less Is More

The whole "Archive the Playbook" and "Launch Fewer, Bigger Shows" really hit home. I've decided to hone in on what the big idea is for my 2024 podcasting. Which is the Creator Accelerator. That one topic, idea, inspiration is actually the boulder for my personal podcasting. Everything else can fit underneath it. So, I don't have to give up those other ideas, I just don't have to develop them individually. Which is actually quite liberating. In this way Creator Accelerator is the umbrella all my other podcasts can live within. This is an exciting revelation for me. It allows for the time freedom and the dedicated commitment that is both actionable and practical.

What's Next?

After I'm done publishing this post, I'm going to eat breakfast, grab a fresh cup of coffee, and spend a little time outside amongst the treetops. Sort of like a reset as I think more deeply about this adjusted course setting.

I will say that the one thing I have committed to myself today is that I will script and record the trailer for my podcast. It's a small baby step in the right direction and I'm ready to see where that small step takes me.

bahahahahaha.................

Well, as a bookkeeper at the start of the year, my goal is to have everyone's books ready for their tax accountant. My goal is always January 15, but then that can change if you have a client (or clients) who decide they want more detail for management purposes.

So, the beginning of the year is always out of my control. All year I've kept up the books so it will be easier at this time, but then a client will throw a monkey wrench into the mix...

This year I am implementing new systems, processes, and procedures to improve business workflow. It's funny how excited I am to put these into action. Previous me would have thought these type of things boring.

And you'll be glad you did implement them, because it will make things easier in the long run.

That is indeed the plan.

I maybe ought to set some defined goals for the year. Professionally it's up to my employer, but outside that I want to progress my music. It looks like my band may have a few gigs in 2024. Those can push me to improve, especially with my drumming.

I also want to do more to publicise Hive and get more people on board. I want to see real growth this year.

I've been kicking around the idea of a virtual event for creators curious about blockchain and specifically Hive. Would appreciate some feedback on the idea.

I'll have a think about it. I don't really have much to push online, so I don't tend to deal with much marketing, but others may have ideas. Maybe do a post to get feedback.

I was thinking of a 101 type of education event to babystep creators from Web2 to Web3. Something that simplifies the concepts and shows how similar creating content is on Hive with what they do on traditional social media.

Yes! Take a step back to reassess, and the two steps forward with a new working model. Less is More, and that's golden! The resilience counts a lot.

How'd the scripts and recording the trailer go? I'd like to be a part of the Creative Accelerator program by listening, if there's a link available yet...
