Infinite Enemies (An Original Poem)

in #poetry7 months ago

Moments
of communion
wistfully arise
when you learn
to place our trust
in the wisdom of the
mysterious unfolding
instead of the lies,

It’s up to us
to make sure
that within the
deepest recesses
of our minds
we’re thinking
for ourselves,
not beholden.

Awakened in
this dream
but not choking
on propaganda
of the cult of woke,
even still we feel the
weight of its
metaphorical yoke,

We are all one,
when we realize this
we’ve all won, game over
and the ladies and lords
who write the script
of the next con
will become
much more sober,

But the hours,
they are ticking off
at such a rapid clip,
each minute the
sanctity of our
collective mind space
takes another dip,

Nothing but
disinformation and
negativity spill
from their lips,
dragging us down,
as they choose yet
another name from
their scroll of enemies,
infinite enemies.

It is a fact that if we want to live a good life in this world, we all have to support each other in bad times. If we start doing that, there are many people who have lfe will be much easier and all of us should always respect each other.

Yes! And realize that, at the end of the day, we really all want the same things. We should be finding a way to peacefully co-exist without there always being someone in the wrong.

If we don't do that, we will all have a lot of problems going on in our lives.

We will take this attitude even with your enemies, one day all people will become friends of each other

This was beautifully penned. Trusting in our own thoughts amidst the chaos of information out there is indeed a skill. And let's not forget, staying woke without drowning in the cult of woke is an art form.

"...staying woke without drowning in the cult of woke is an art form."

Thank you Iska, you've summed that up perfectly!

In the world of today, I think your poem is more than ever very actual!
Well written!

Thanks, I appreciate it!

So accurate.

This reminds me of a statement from a comic I saw a few days ago; translated it goes like this:
"Democracy is when the sheep chooses which wolf will eat it."

It's really ramping up! What comic was that quote from? It's poignant but probably applies to most forms of government.

It was an image from a German article posted in a Swiss magazine or alternative news website. I'll add the link so you can see the picture that portrays what's happening worldwide. The article's title is "The Art of Not Being Ruled."

I completely agree, union is a strength. We need to realize this. The world we are living in has forced us to forget this thing. trusting each other, and working with each other, will help us build great things. On-the-spot poem. Good one.

Yes, constantly questioning and analyzing the narratives that we're being fed is imperative. I always ask myself "what is the motivation behind this or that news story?" If we don't do this on a global level we will only devolve further into a state of constant war. Thanks!

What a beautiful composition @ericvancewalton I love people who know how to write poetry

Wow!!! This is so deep and each word holds strong meaning.

Thank you for sharing Eric😃

Thanks Tammy, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I want to say this paranoia and fear mongering is a new thing, but it has kind of always been like this right? There is always a group to hate or blame or distrust. It's almost like it's a necessity to have an enemy. What would we fill that void with if we ever stopped, or then would the balance be disrupted?

You're so right, it's been a tool people in power have used since the beginning of time but it's becoming more sophisticated and effective, it seems. I feel like now they found a way to use unity, inclusion, kindness to twist/contort it in a way that allows people to rationalize the demonization of targeted groups. Not so much for the greater good but just to create another enemy to distract/divide us and forward their agendas. I think a lot of people are now left in a state of confusion and disillusionment, wondering what the truth even is.

Yes, the whole rallying behind a cause thing has gotten pretty status quo. It's hard too because it used to be pretty cut and dry what was good and what was bad. At least it seemed like it. I feel like now it's just a hot mess. Especially given the fact that people are going to extremes because it is cool not necessarily because it is accurate or just. I never realized how hard it is to be as vague as possible :) So many people falling on different sides of things. Especially the current situation.

Totally. I guess this is the outcome of decades of pushing the public to fringe extremes and away from a mutual consensus. Combine this with the attention seeking aspect of social media and the dumbing down of our education system and it's a perfect storm of chaos. People are losing the ability to think for themselves and it's very scary.

What a very touching poem... Have a nice day, Eric.

Thank you Eliana. I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Give a chance to be all one, human 😉

Very nice poem 😃

Part of me feels like propaganda is less effective than we fear. For example, I read a poll the other day that claimed that 61% of the American public expects WWIII within the next few years. This isn't surprising given how much the media is foaming at the mouth while screaming it. It would seem to indicate that the public is buying into the propaganda. Yet, then I looked at the sample size of the poll. 1000 people. It didn't even go into other details. So in effect this poll is completely meaningless and doesn't show a thing. It reminded me of my stats class in university. The prof there always made the claim that you can use stats to prove absolutely anything.

We read in books about WWII how the Japanese public was united against China and the US, how they fully supported the war, how they 100% believed the government propaganda which claimed they were winning the war and all was good. But..... those books are lying. Most of the public didn't want war, but they knew enough to keep their mouths shut or they could be arrested by the secret police. No one believed the government and everyone knew Japan was losing the war. Almost nothing US history books claim about the Japanese public at the time are true. And I kind of feel it's the same now. When we read things about how divided the American public is, how much they are falling for the propaganda on either side, I kind of doubt it. In effect it is like meta-propaganda. Using propaganda to try to convince us that propaganda is working on others.

Er, sorry for the rant. Back to your poem. I like the lines:

We are all one,
when we realize this
we’ve all won, game over
and the ladies and lords
who write the script
of the next con
will become
much more sober,

Keep them coming!

I think the apocalyptic doom & gloom is in direct correlation with how much mainstream media (and certain social media) a person consumes. The barrage of disinformation and negativity truly is like a poison that changes a person's entire energy. We know an elderly guy we used to skate with, he was such a fun and happy-go-lucky man (which probably contributed to his health and longevity). Around 2019 or so he started consuming nothing but extreme alt-right media. Now his entire social media page consists of hateful and antisemitic political posts. He's a completely different person. It's sad to see a person in his final years take this kind of turn.

That's insane about the WWII and the Japanese people. I've never heard that before and never gave it much thought. It doesn't surprise me though. Rarely do regular citizens support the killing and destruction of others. It takes a lot of propaganda and coercion to whip the populace into a war mongering frenzy.

Some of people I've seen on social media predicting WWIII seem to not be supporting it themselves but feeling the major governments and defense contractors have put us on that path. Some of those accounts are engagement farming too and posting only about that topic because it's getting them attention. Very sad, putting that kind of negativity into the world for clicks, views, shares, and likes.

Thank you my friend! I'll definitely keep them coming!
