This is the long-awaited summer adventure reel from your favourite blockchain hoser. If you don't find a reason to follow me in this post, best put me on ignore!

In this edition, I tried to walk you through a whole Canadian summer of fun but the post was just too long. Probably still is!

What did I get up to? Read on!

FORE!

Golf is a perfect summer pastime for me. Normally, I like to get out on the course at least a few times in a summer. Every couple weeks or so if we can swing it. This year it has only been a couple times so far but we are fixing to play at least a couple more rounds before the courses close up for the season.

Here is another time we hit the links. The sky opened up when we were just finishing the front 9 and just pounded the course. We headed indoors for a beer and a little dry, convinced our day was over. A beer later and it was sunny again and dry except for a few bonus water hazards. Might as well kick off your shoes and make a little splash for some fun.

Gardening

IMG_2172.JPG

It all starts with a trip to the greenhouse at the beginning of the season. With any luck, I can escape without spending hundreds and this year I managed to grow the whole thing for under $100. Walking through this place and breathing the oxygen is something special and you just long to make your home like this.

It wouldn't be a summer without the Pickleman Family Garden. I look back on the #hivegarden posts in the long winter to remember all that grows and the colours of summer. I love every season but there is something special about the life that springs from the soil and commands a closer look.

In addition to the blooms, a nice big veggie garden is a good reason for more time out doors in the yard. I have gotten pretty good at growing tomatoes over the years and love to share those lessons with all the gardeners on Hive. This year's hacks include snipping all the leaves and branches below the lowers tomato, fertilizing every 3 weeks, and stringing the vines up 8-foot sticks. There is nothing quite like veggies fresh from the garden and onto your plate.

Work

IMG_2740.JPG

No matter the season, there is work to be done. Sure I like to take a more relaxed pace in closing sales and enjoy some time away. Still, there is work to be done and every 2 weeks I become a deliverer of the local news! Distribution and digital promotion partner for the local news paper sure doesn't make us much money. It is more of a service to the community, a favour for a partner, and a good 15k steps in a day every 2 weeks.

Along those lines, I was roped into joining the committee that runs Winterfest in town. I figured that would be good for a few meetings over beer in the summer and then a bit more work in the cold months. This is a rare picture of me on the blog. Not the old people. I am the swan!

I can tell you that suit is hot as the hubs of hell in the middle of a #sublimesunday. What I won't do to be a helper and entertain a legion of blog followers!

Music

IMG_2386 (2).JPG

Music is a blessing every season but the summer brings it outdoors where it is best. Here, we gather monthly for Vinyl Night at an awesome old repurposed church now a restaurant/events venue called https://Revival.house In the summer, we head out to the terrace and spin records & chug pints under the warm night sky. Gathering for music is about as good as it gets and when you transcend genres and eras with what you can find on vinyl, outside, yah I love summer music.

I did get to a few concerts this summer as they seem to be back with force this summer after a couple years recovering from pandemic. One show that hit our small town was Carole Pope who you might know from Rough Trade if you are old enough. She is a bit of a legend because of her long career as a pop star, lesbian activist when it wasn't cool, and portfolio of solo and show tunes. I am not sure I would head to the big city to catch her show but when she plays in our small town, in a beautiful and intimate venue, I had to go. Great to catch a little music history and even have a chat with a very pleasant legend!

Beer

IMG_1740 (1).JPG

This post is long enough and I haven't even gotten into summer #Beer! Actually you can catch and still vote on A Summer in Beerology for that tale https://peakd.com/beersaturday/@zekepickleman/beersaturday-a-summer-of-beerology About the best part of this delicious summer was brewing our own beer from grain, evolving the recipe as we go, and even winning an award at a brewing competition.

IMG_2790.JPG

Besides that, I have a couple brewery tours to catch you up on for an upcoming #beersaturday post. Summer and beer go together even better when there is a road trip involved and a fresh new beer at the end of that road!

IMG_2901.JPG

For some, the sun has gone down on a wonderful season and this @daveks wannabe sunset pic might have you in the mood to let it go gracefully. Not me! I have plenty of fair weather outdoor adventure on the agenda and summer doesn't actually end 'til Sept 21st! Besides that, I have Vol 2 of What I Did This Summer to share which will have some big city trips, more music and charity, and the rest of the Dog days of summer

Thanks for joining me for maybe half the summer story!
