Aretha Franklin is a famous and talented Soul and Motown artist from Detroit, Michigan. Franklin paved the way for many female Soul and R&B artists including Whitney Houston with her commerically successful and professionally masterful voice and production of music. She is a national treasure, and is missed.
Franklin was particularly prolific in her production of music. Among her most famous songs are "I Say a Little Prayer", "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman" and "Respect". Her music has been featured in movies and television and she had been a Gospel and Soul musician for years. Franklin, like Al Green, produced Gospel music through the 1980s and returned to Soul and R&B music in the 1990s. She was a great singer with technical talent like her preacher father.
Franklin was a Gospel and Soul artist with a career that spanned almost 50 years. She was deemed the "Queen of Soul" in the 1970s, and performed as Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Al Green were producing music for Motown Records. Franklin lived in Detroit, Michigan and was part of the dynamic Motown Soul and R&B music scene that rocked the country. Motown music took the country by storm from the 1960s to the mid 1970s, and the record company was purchased by MCA in 1988. The studio passed through multiple hands and is now a Universal/Capital Records company.
Franklin passed away in 2018 and was a major contributor to American Soul Music. She produced more than 110 singles and had many Platinum records. Franklin was also the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
