In the not-so-distant future, in 2077, machines stopped being simple tools and became artists. And you might ask, why? Well, robots advanced a lot and began to be used for many tasks, but they mainly began to occupy stages as musicians and actors. As expected, they did their job perfectly, so it didn't take long for them to take center stage in all aspects of this art. But you know, they got along very well with humans, because humans loved listening to their music and watching them perform, because they did it very well. The ones who didn't come off very well were the artists and singers because they lost a large part of their audience, because now they preferred robots, they did it better.
Well, one of these robots was Marcos, who made a living as a robot guitarist. He was very famous in his town and had gained everyone's attention. Many years ago he woke up in a dumpster, he didn't know how he got there, but the person who threw him away left him programmed with many memories and knowledge of how to play the guitar. So he began to take advantage of his skills doing this to earn a living. And now the question arises, why does a robot need to earn a living? Well, although he doesn't really have to eat or spend money on cleaning products, he does have to buy tools for maintenance, or new batteries every so often that were very expensive, and he also had to pay for the house where he lived.
For all this and for many other things he had to work and he wasn't the only one, many independent robots also did the same. The thing is that Marcos, despite being so famous where he lived and having many friends and admirers, felt very lonely. Especially because almost all the robots knew their creator and had a family to live with and help. But in his case, not being able to meet his creator made him feel a bit empty, and that emptiness couldn't be filled with money.
And that wasn't all, there was something more important that sometimes haunted him, because when he made a good song, he ended up wondering if he was really creating music or just reproducing what already existed or maybe someone had programmed him. He didn't want people to see him as a copy, that's why unlike other robots he made drastic changes. First he modified his entire body to look more human, in fact whoever saw him couldn't find the difference, because the doctors of this future could do wonders and made him look human. But even so he continued to feel like what he was, just another robot.
Luckily, continuing to play the guitar gave some meaning to his life, because it was the only thing he knew how to do. The time came when money began to accumulate because he really didn't have anything to spend it on anymore. He just saved it in case one day he found its creator or an owner who really wanted to share it with him, but he didn't need that much. But as they say, things change overnight when you least expect it, and that's what happened in his case. One day, during an interview, a journalist asked him a question that got him thinking: Have you ever composed anything of your own?
Marcos thought about the question for a moment, searching his database. He knew how to improvise, of course, but creating something completely new was different. The truth is that he wasn't programmed for that. That journalist told him That's what music does, right? Answering questions that don't have an easy answer. But the good part came later, the journalist handed him a note, told him that the person who had created him wanted to see him and that he had used him as a messenger to deliver the message. He gave him the address of the place and the day. After that, he left. In the note, in addition to that information, there was the name of the one who had sent it, his name was Elias.
Elias was actually his true creator, well not the builder but the one who had contributed his thoughts and skills. Now he is a very old person, but when he was young, he was an excellent guitarist, won many awards and became very famous. But then he contracted a strange disease for which the doctors gave him only days to live. When he found himself in that situation, he felt very bad because his entire legacy would be lost and no one would be able to play like he did with his style. That's why he decided to buy a robot and transfer his memories and guitar playing skills to it, so that robot could continue his career after he died. But in the end, with the advancement of technology, he ended up curing himself and there was no need to use the robot as his legacy. So he threw it away.
But soon he realized his big mistake, he had voted for his robot with his memories inside. So he started to feel that he had made a big mistake, because he had actually thrown away a part of himself that in the future could continue his legacy. So he quickly went to look for it the next day, but it was no longer where he left it. The garbage truck took it and left it under piles of garbage for the next 30 years. In that time the world changed and we arrived at the present, where we are today. Not long ago Marcos woke up and made his career as a guitarist, just as Elias had programmed.
Elias realized that he was his robot because he played just like him, and had the same style as him. So he did everything possible to meet him and now finally after traveling from another country they can see each other for the first time in decades. When Marcos arrived at the place he was able to remember everything, because when he saw Elias' face the memories that were in his memory were unlocked and he could finally remember his childhood, his adolescence and youth, because he had all of Elias' memories. It was a touching encounter, because Elias was in his last years of life and he wanted to say goodbye and give him a gift. When Marcos asked him what that gift was, he only replied, it was an upgrade. The upgrade consisted in part of what had just been unlocked and giving him all the memories he was missing so that he could finally continue with Elias' legacy, now with all the knowledge and skills complete.
Marcos was very happy because now he had met his creator and could take care of him until his last days and then continue his legacy, and he no longer felt like he was making copies, because now he had all of his creator's knowledge at his disposal, now he was original. Marcos took care of Elias for the next year until he finally died, but he promised him that he would never let his legacy die, he would take care of keeping it great forever.
